This was my first long run w/ my Garmin, so it is my first longer run where I can accurately track my pace throughout.  (Only 8 miles...I'm 10 weeks out from a half marathon...so I know not long for some of you!)

Mile 1: 8:01 (a tad fast maybe, but I settled in.)
2: 8:20
3: 8:11
4: 8:18
5: 8:14
6: 8:15
7: 8:20
8: 8:08 (Although, this mile was tough!)

I'm sure being able to glance at the Garmin to see how I was doing on pacing helped me stay on track moreso than before...but still, I'm pretty impressed w/ myself!

Very cool!

Did you set it to show current lap pace? That is what helped me to learn to pace better.

Yup.  I started out using pace for a few short runs, but realized that wasn't really doing anything to help me.  So now I have lap pace as my top field on all three screens, set to two fields each.  For the second fields on the screens, I have it scrolling b/w overall time, overall distance, and heart rate.  This was also my first run with this setup, and it worked really well to have the lap pace essentially set as a constant field on the screen.
