Road bike

I have been looking at road bikes and haven't been successful in finding a used one in my size. I was a bike shop this morning and they showed me the Specialized Dolce Elite. The big sale was the tax savings which in Ontario Canada is about 15%. The bike would cost me about $1500 Cdn. I was surprised there weren't any better deals. I am a beginner and I still don't know what I like and don't like in a bike considering I am using a mountain bike. I may add some new tires to my existing bike for now and see how that goes. I would have expected more deals at this time of year.
