Looking for an early fall local 5K? Possibly an easy recovery run following the Baltimore Marathon?

Consider PurpleStride Maryland on October 11th at Oregon Ridge park, a charity fundraising event will include a 5K run, 2 mile walk, a silent auction, face painting, a great playground for kids and live entertainment, all in a beautiful park setting.

My father-in-law started this 4 years ago after my mother-in-law passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. It's since grown into a statewide event which attracted over 800 participants last year and has raised over a $250K in its first 3 years to benefit PanCan (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network).

Awareness of this disease has increased in light of recent celebrities who lost the battle with pancreatic cancer, including Patrick Swayze and Randy Pausch (from The Last Lecture), but little in the way of prevention, screening/early detection, and treatment is available today. PanCan is attempting to improve the chances of those affected by pancreatic cancer. The money raised in this event benefits PanCan.
