hi Autumn,
I've been experimenting with protein powder for what seems like forever.  I have finally settled on a whey protein powder from Vitamin World.  They're another chain usually located at the mall, and probably pretty close to GNC.  1 scoop is 90 calories, 1.5g fat, 17g protein, and 1g carb.  It is pretty similar to brands sold at GNC (can't think of the name of the stuff I used to get there) probably even made at the same place, but costs a heck of a lot less.  The 5lb container is only $30 and they mail coupons all the time.  Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry of course.  I'm into the vanilla right now because hubby was tired of the strawberry.  I have it every morning and have no complaints.

As a previous gym rat, I've used proteinfactory.com for a pretty long time. I've also used a site called proteincustomizer.com but they've been combined with some other sites and I can't vouch for their stuff anymore - but I used to love it.

But back to proteinfactory.com. They sell a variety of formulas at a very reasonable price. They will even let you custom design a protein formula. I have three separate formulas: morning, post-workout and nighttime, and each one I have both flavored and unflavored. The flavored I can make a quick shake out of, and the unflavored I can make a smoothie out of.

The only drawback is there are so MANY selections there - you really need to know what you are looking to do, what supplements you'd like to add, and what types of protein you want to use.

Look into it - it's really a good deal.

Research shows that whey protein is the best form when taking it as a supplement. There are many different brands, so you just need to do a little research yourself and see what the difference is between them. However, most people can get enough protein in their diet if they eat meat, chicken, dairy, etc. There is a great article on the Gatorade Sports Science Insititute webpage about the need for protein and exercise.

I use Nitro-tech as of now but I have found most any whey protein will do.
