Run
Comments: my rough plan was to run the first 4-5 miles at a 6:30 pace, then speed up if i could. of course, i didn't know the layout of the course, which would have helped. ended up doing the first two miles in 6:20-6:30 pace, then hit the big hill on mile 2.5 or so. this mile ended up being 7:11, but i felt like i was going to blow up and finish very poorly. however, once it flattened out again, i was able to hold on and keep my pace around 7. in fact, the next mile was 7:00. Then the downhill started, and i was able to pick it up to 5:30 on the downhills. ended up doing the last 3.4 miles between 6:06 and 6:03 pace! i was happy with how strong i finished, but wanted to break 48 mins. . very close ! pretty solid avg pace for me, considering the course What would you do differently?: run more hills! Post race
Warm down: walked for about 10 mins after - as usual to get the HR back in check. stretched a little, but i was freezing, so i drove home and stretched more there. What limited your ability to perform faster: hills, didn't taper or rest for the race, and was still sore from skiing friday night (although volume has been light since seattle marathon) Event comments: $45 was a bit steep . . meh. ate the usual - Oatmeal and coffee for breakfast. Took the short 7 min drive down to downtown Kirkland, and found a place to park. I went to register - turns out they only took cash, so i had to find an ATM. Got registered, went back to my car to discard my heavier clothing.
ran around the block and around the start area - probably about 5 mins.
