Pre-race routine:

Ran a fever the night before the race. Woke up feeling really crappy and tired so I did a really bad thing. I drank some 5 hour energy on an empty stomach thinking it might help me overcome the illness. I broke the rule of nothing new on race day and I paid for it!!
Swim
  • 10m 45s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

I missed almost every single one of my flip turns, and I was really tense in the water. I was slower than the 10:21 I did in masters and way more tired.
What would you do differently?:

RELAX!!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transitions weren't timed.
What would you do differently?:

Take longer!! :)
Bike
  • 23m
  • 6 miles
  • 15.65 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm pleased with the bike considering how little training I've been doing on the bike. I set the resistance at a 2 and just kept my cadence between 100 and 150
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

walk slower to the treadmill :)
Run
  • 25m 17s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

This run completely stunk. My injured calf flared up, and my stomach was upset before I ever got on the treadmill. I had an immediate side ache and could never get into a stride. At the end, I sprinted, got off the treadmill and thought I would hurl.
What would you do differently?:

Not get injured, train more, and definitely not try anything new on race day to upset my stomach.

I won't know my ranking until next week.
Post race
Warm down:

I was really light headed and came home and went to bed still with a fever.

Not bad!  A few mistakes.  I too got injured prior to my first race.  Its probably common.  With the first one day, you can put togther your game plan for the next.

Alana you did it thats all that matters.  I am scared because I don't know what to expect with not having done this before.  There always has to be a first. Great job.

Excellent job Alana.  Most people wouldn't have even gotten out of bed.  You should be very proud.  Just think of how easy the next one is going to be when you have no fever and your calf is better.

Alana - that was a totally ballsy (pardon my french) race !!  I love the Transition race comments. I wish the T's in my first race weren't timed - i was looking for the sticker for my helmet at T1 and asking people for pins to put pin my race bib to my shirt at T2. GREAT RACE !!!
