Overall Rank = 69/173
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/26
Pre-race routine:

Got there at 06:00 for an 08:30 start. Found good location for bike and transitions. Had plenty of time to strech and visit with others. Should have eaten a little more before the race.
Event warmup:

Light jog.
should have biked a little.
Swim
  • 06m 29s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Thought that I did a lot better this year. My time out of the water was almost 2 minutes better and I was able to run up the hill to the bike without any issues. Getting the wet suit off did not seem to be a problem either.
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I may have changed was where I started in the group going in. I should have been a little wider on the start it seemed to be a little less congested out there.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I forgot to have my helmet unsnapped when I set up, had to unsnap it before I could put it on. Once I got onto the bike it took a couple of tries to get my feet into the clips.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do a couple of bricks going from swim to bike.
Bike
  • 28m 34s
  • 9 miles
  • 18.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Needed to have Gatorade in the bike bottle instead of water. Only drank twice should have had a little more. I was 2 minutes faster on the bike this year but I attribute that more to my better condition coming out of the water than I do my actual bike performance.
What would you do differently?:

Hit the bike a little earlier in the training and done more. This year I just assumed the bike would come back more than it did. I also tried to keep a better cadence this year something to defiantly work on this year. Need to train more with a higher heart rate, not often in 170 range when training.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This went very well I came in about 30 seconds behind one guy and was able to leave the transition area about 5 seconds behind him.
What would you do differently?:

Keep the water bottle for a little longer. Only took one quick drink and then tossed it, should have made sure I had enough.
Run
  • 24m 41s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I was 8 seconds slower this year compared to last. The first quarter mile my right calf was very thight and painful. It loosened up and I was able to finish without stopping. Had one other runner who came out of T2 right before me. He kept up about the same pace as me but would stop and walk at water stations when I would catch up with him he would start running again. We were side by side at last water station (2 mile) and when he stopped I kept going. he finished 30 seconds behind me.
What would you do differently?:

The calf pain limited my early run. Need to make sure I get enough biking in to limit the tranition pain.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk and light strech.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf pain at start of run. Also felt like I was getting weak at end of run, may need to eat a little more. I forgot my apple in the car and should have went back for it but didn't.

Event comments:

There were a lot of last minute registrations so all of the events were pushed back 10 minutes. For those of us that got there with plenty of time it was a bit of a distraction, but not enough to ruin the event.

Congrats on a good race. Nice bike split on what sounds like a tough course.
