Total Time = 1h 34m 13s
Overall Rank = 278/314
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 78/91
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5 am, had a protien shake, and some water. I was pretty dehydrated in days leading up to the race due to stomach flu, so I didn't want to risk it. Racked the bike and waited for them to open the pool as it was freakin cold!
Event warmup:

Hot showers.
Swim
  • 16m 34s
  • 500 meters
  • 03m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

I started in the first wave and was in the first 24 into the pool, the first two in our lane kept stopping and standing up for the first 200m, we could only pass at the wall, so this slowed us (me and the other girl) down a bit at first. Once past, I tried to make up some time and got a little winded, which probably slowed me down in the end. But considering my T1 time is included here, I'm pretty happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

Keep my own pace no matter what.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Included in swim time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, T1 was pretty smooth. Everyone else had a lot of stuff, made me wonder what I was missing, but the keep it simple stupid really works for me!
Bike
  • 48m 57s
  • 16 kms
  • 19.61 km/hr
Comments:

I was not as strong as I wanted to be here, given that I am not a fast runner, but I was one of the firt six out of the pool and didn't have anyone else on the course to push me harder - I really need to ride against someone.
What would you do differently?:

start in a later wave, maybe wear the garmin to see how fast i'm going.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Included in my bike time.
Run
  • 28m 43s
  • 3 kms
  • 09m 34s  min/km
Comments:

Lack of fluid really kicked in here, as this is almost twice my regular time. Bummed about that.
What would you do differently?:

Not get sick & dehydrated before? Run more hills.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around water, Gatorade, bananas.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

dehydration

Event comments:

First race, so nothing to compare it to, but I had a great time!

Great race!  It must have been very chilly outside for those of you in the first few swim heats!
