Swim
Comments: FAST Current. Jumped into the water and was basically FORCED to hold onto the line in the water. Even though I didn't warm up for the swim, everyone else was inthe same boat. Navigation had problems and it cost me dearly b/c of partial flooding in goggles. Once again, though, swimming in groups presents to be a problem for me. Too much time lost trying to navigate through crowds (especailly when catching up to prior waves). Lots of tossing and chucking in water. Just a tough swim to get through, lots of fighting in the water and never hit my rhythm. What would you do differently?: Nothing, navigate a bit more cleaning and warmup maybe! Transition 1
Comments: Ok transition. I didn't want to rush things, I really took my time with things, didn't want to get the HR up already. This was my first Olympics distance (even though I have done a HIM) so I was trying to test out the water in terms of HR rates and pacing. What would you do differently?: Need to be a bit more smoother and clear headed with transition. Full wetsuit presented its own problems but it was expected. Bike
Comments: Best biking for me yet in any race. Tried cycling now in the big gear/high cadence combo and it worked wonders. Really gained some speed, cadence was very strong and gearing helped to make the pace somewhat consistent. Only problem was with the crowded highways at certain points of bike (since our group was among the last to start). But for once, it was nice to actually pass people on the bike. What would you do differently?: Need more big gear work. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was smooth enough. Not too fast but smooth enough! What would you do differently?: Need to finish bike segment faster so I have more room and space on the rack. The two goons on both sides of my location really were sloppy with their bike placement. Then again, i would be too if I biked that fast... Run
Comments: Ahh, the run. Solid, Solid SOLID. Cadence strong and for once it was a relief to run the race without a HR monitor. Passed about 10-20 AGers, while I got passed by only 1-2 AGers. So end sum was positive nonetheless. What would you do differently?: need to get more speed work in. Draft a bit better on the run. Another two weeks until I add the speed work in for the Build sessions. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Sluggish week. Tapered because I felt more burned out than anything else from Tupper Lake two weeks ago. but this race was a great GREAT race not b/c of the results per se, but simply because my body felt "on" for once. Strong actions by the body, that's all. Event comments: Great Triathlon Organization. large participation and good competition. Well put together! Last updated: 2005-07-10 12:00 AM
