Swim
Comments: I swam fairly well, but my personal tracking device (me) was off today. Not only did I not draft well, but I took the course, pretty much the whole thing, too wide. I seem to need an alignment. This is particulalry true without a wetsuit. I tend to veer to the left. Admittedly...it was a bit slow, but that's what I had to offer. What would you do differently?: Sight a little more frequently and get in the mix a little more. This would both put me in line with the buoys, but help me to draft. All that being said, it was a good swim and I say this for two basic reasons. 1. I made it back. 2. I swam pretty steadily even though I swam off course. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty well. I didn't have any real snags except maybe I was a little slow putting my socks on. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. It was a reasonable transition. Bike
Comments: It was a good ride. It was a little slower than what I had hoped for (I was shooting for more of a 23.6 mph or higher average). I'm glad my average was over 22 mph anyway. What would you do differently?: Pushed a little harder. Howevr, I think I did respond when I noticed any "gaps" in concentration. Transition 2
Comments: Solid transition. No problems. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Solid effort on the run. I felt strong and gave it what I had. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked around drinking and eating what was offered (water, apples, grapes, etc). Dipped myself in the lake to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not having a wetsuit (aka...my lackluster swimming ability). Event comments: Tri Del is a fantastic sprint triathlon/duathlon event. The course suits me well and because it is local, it's a no-brainer, must-do event. It's well organized, the tech-t's and jerseys are cool and the field is usually fairly strong. Good stuff. The 5:15 a.m. alarm was not needed as I woke up at 5:11 a.m.
On top of normal morning routines, roll my calves with both the foam roller and the TP Massage roller (esp. on my Achilles tendons).
Load the car and...hit the road by 6:15.
Arrive at race site around 6:30.
Mostly walking in and out of the transition from both directions, checking out the route from the water to transition, the 100 yards or so after the run out, and the finish.
Did some arm rotations to loosen up for the swim.
