Pre-race routine:

I forgot my race number at the house and had to turn back! Was frazzled by the time I got to the lake and set up. They were already doing pre-race instructions, and I hadn't warmed up at all. Aargh!
Event warmup:

Very little warm-up.... just some mild stretching before jumping in!
Swim
  • 07m 8s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

I came out swimming fast to get out to the front of the pack. I was swimming well until I ran into the slower swimmers from the group ahead, who were all doing breaststroke.... I had to fight through several as I moved ahead, which slowed me down and affected my breathing.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the lake earlier so I can start at the front of the pack! Concentrate on my breathing, even when fighting the pack
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Transition was too slow.... struggled getting my wet feet into my socks and shoes on!
What would you do differently?:

Need to get shoes on faster - maybe put them on slightly wet rather than dry all the way?
Bike
  • 37m 38s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.13 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt strong on the bike, and was stoked to see 8th overall.
What would you do differently?:

Could have been stronger going up the hills
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

This was one of the hardest parts of the race! I almost fell down when getting off the bike. I couldn't run with the bike - I had to walk through the transition to get my legs back and stretch for 30 seconds before starting run.
What would you do differently?:

train harder to get used to this!
Run
  • 23m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really good on the run, considering it's my weakest leg... it certainly felt less than 3 miles - did I really run a sub 8-minute mile?
What would you do differently?:

training.... faster pace!
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around and ate the complimentary bananas. I felt great afterward and could have kept going!

Event comments:

My first triathlon is complete! Overall, I felt great, and was shocked at the 12th place overall finish. Bring on the Kirkland tri in September!

Awesome job on your first Tri!!

You were speedy at everything...just think if you keep training and warm up how you'll do.

You should be super proud of your tri...it is cool to be a triathlete!

Thanks kathy and everyone it was such a great experience. I was on a rack with some guys doing the sprint to warm up for tomorrow's oly and they were so helpful and great to talk to about my first tri. This is really a good group of people and I'm so glad I got involved!
