One week to go before my first tri, and my big toe goes and gets in the way.... I'm sitting here on the sofa, foot up, because I just had the nail hacked off because...well, maybe nobody really wants to hear the grusome details...
So, I'm sure that by tomorrow swimming shouldn't be a problem, but last time I was absent a big toenail it was highly uncomfortable to wear any closed toed shoes for a few weeks (naked toe top bumping top of shoe-not good). Of course, I would have to have something much more significant to wimp out. Sometime in the next couple days I will have to rig something up. Any suggestions?
Meanwhile, I'm spending my afternoon catching up on some interesting BT threads an having an (almost) equally interesting email discussion with some friends.

Once, I was running from the pool into the YMCA building in flip flops and a kid slammed open the door the same time I was trying to come in.....gross story, lost my big toenail to the door, slapped on a band aid, slapped on my nike water shoe and taught my 1 1/4 hr water aerobics class bouncing on one foot......the moral of the story.......if the shoe fits, just do it.

Try some kind of foam/donut thingy and pretend you are on survivor, we have faith in you.

Wow, you really are tough!

The foam idea might work, I'm also considering sacrificing a pair of shoes to the cause and just chopping out the area above that toe (my big toes also point up, thus adding to the top of toe against shoe issue-I have a hard time finding shoes with toes 'tall' enough to begin with). An arguement could be made that said shoes are nearing replacement and I figure as long as the orthotics still work, I should be OK. I may look a little funny, but who cares!
