Total Time = 1h 17m 31s
Overall Rank = 42/124
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Got there REALLY early. Set up my bike and walked around to get used to the place. Once I was all set up, I walked from the swim exit to my bike in T1 a few times, so I wouldn't get confused during the race.
Event warmup:

I warmed up in reverse order: run, bike swim. Just did a little running and biking and then took my shoes of and swam about 200yd in the lake. Then I grabbed some gu and waited for the race to start!
Swim
  • 09m 30s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't push myself to hard, because this was my first open water swim and I didn't quite know what to expect.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I'll push just a little bit harder. Also, lesson learned: just because there're people farther out than you (e.g. if swimming counterclockwise, just because you can see swimmers to your right), does NOT mean that you're on track! They could just be even MORE offtrack than you are!
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Pretty small transition area.
What would you do differently?:

I think I did okay, but next time I'm going to take the 15 sec to put on some socks, and tie my shoes tighter, because I have some wicked blisters.
Bike
  • 44m 1s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.36 mile/hr
Comments:

Again, I didn't kill myself on the bike, because I knew it was going to be a hilly course, and boy, was it!
What would you do differently?:

I would push a bit harder on the flat sections, but overall I really think I did okay.
Transition 2
  • 00m 24s
Comments:

I didn't use biking shoes, so T2 was really fast for me. I just racked the bike, grabbed a quick drink, took off my helmet and headed out to the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 22m 35s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really strong in the run, but I had some cramps (side stich), so I couldn't go quite that fast.
What would you do differently?:

I waited too long to start the kick, because I overestimated how far away from the finish line I was and I was concerned about dying on the hills.
Post race
Warm down:

Slow jog/walk to cool down. Streching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to get used to drinking while running again. I did okay on the bike, but drinking during the run killed me.

Event comments:

If I wasn't leaving the area in a few days, I'd definitely do this race again in August. Excellent for first-timers such as myself, but also plenty of competition for those who seek it.
