Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anyone hear about this race? Apparently its the first year for this event. A short sprint 300m swim (pool), 10m bike and 5K run. I wanted to get into Tri Andys Tri but it was sold out and saw this one was on the same day in OCtober. This will be my first race and I wanted to pick one that was doable to get ready for in 9 weeks for someone literally starting from scratch on swimming and running. Anyone else doing this race? Probably not a popular one for veteran racers. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm not doing it, but it sounds doable for your first one. I've never done a pool swim tri, but from what I've read, they seed you based on the time you think you'll finish the swim. If you check out trifind.com they have a great list of races. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() yeah that is where I found this race. I've only been training for 2 weeks but my swimming has improved. I can swim about 150M consecutively so I need to double that in 8 weeks. Figured it would be a good race to "get my feet wet" at. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I assume this is the race in Fairfield. I'm not a fan of pool swims for a triathlon because most people do not guess their time correctly and it becomes an issue navigating around people that think they can swim in 1:45/100m and really do it in 2:20/100m. It would probably be a nice beginner race though. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the heads up on this one. Wanted to get into the Try Andy's Tri too, but couldn't. Will have to register for this since it's just down the road from me. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Glad to hear the encouragement. The training is going well except for the achilles/solius problem I'm having which is effecting my ability to run. I'm running but having to mix in walks and do lots of stretching. The swim part seems to me to be the hardest. I did go from swimming 100 meters to being able to swim 150 meters after the first week, but I'm still completely exhausted after the 150 and can only do 50 meters at a time after that. Please tell me it gets better! |

Please tell me it gets better! It gets better as long as you stay consistent with swimming. Are you using any training plan? I built swim distance using a "0 to 1 mile in 6 weeks" plan. Google that or let me know if you want the link. I needed something to follow to help push me further. When I started two years ago in May, I could not swim 25 meters without panting heavily.....used the plan somewhat consistently (travel created issues...) and could swim 1500 meters non-stop by the end of that summer. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() wow. that makes me feel better. I'm using a plan from this website (BT) that my wife got for me that is a 12 week beginner plan. I only had 9 weeks till the race I signed on for so I just started in week 3. the bike workouts are no prob but I'm a little behind on the running and swimming. this program has me doing all 3 disciplines 2 times a week. I would love to be able to do an OLY by next summer but I'm just not sure that is enough time to build that kind of swimming base. That's the longest distance I would ever care to do. |

![]() | ![]() I'm registered for Try Andy's Tri, but I was also looking to do this one. I'm curious though, I thought this race was the 10th of October, and Andy's was the 17th? I don't want to double book. Does anyone know for sure? |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Yes the Fairfield race is the 10th and TAT is the 17th. Not sure about the Fairfield tri... no seeding for the swim was offered up at registration like other races, and there is no info on packet pick-up. I am racing both... so we will see how it turns out. For those wanting to get into TAT, packet resale usually offers a good opportunity to get in, so you may truy that option... Andy puts on a great event! TriAggie88 - 2010-08-22 10:57 AM I'm registered for Try Andy's Tri, but I was also looking to do this one. Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Being consistent is the key to increasing your distances in all thre disciplines. Just remember, if you get tired while doing the swim, you can do any stroke that feels comfortable. My first Oly I side stroked for a very, very long time! Easy breast stroke allows you to keep your head up and get some extra o2 in your lungs. I'm sure you can get up to an Oly distance by next summer. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() they are seeding for the swim. got an email from the race director this week about it asking for our 300m times. Problem for me is that I've never swam that far consecutively. I hope to be able to in 6 weeks. |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in! This will be my first tri pool swim. Is there anything out on what the bike course is going to be? |
|

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is my first Tri. less than two weeks away now. I am feeling pretty good about it but nervous about how I'll manage everything. I feel like my training has been good and I'm looking forward to the experience. Little nervous about how the whole pool swim will workout. could be a giant spanking machine, but it will only be 6 or 7 minutes and then off to the races. Anyone else looking forward to this one? |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This one is close to home, so what the heck. This will be my first pool swim tri. I have only done open water. Any info on packet pickup and transition opening and closing times? I can't find a dedicated website for the event. I just signed up via Active.com. Edited by bridgeland 2010-09-30 10:38 AM |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since there is no packet pick up time posted am I safe in assuming that the packet pick up will be the day of? Also This will be my first triathlon so is there any REQUIRED equipment other than a bike and helment? |

![]() | ![]() The RD emailed info about packet pick-up.

Member![]() | ![]() This is my 3rd tri and by far the worst so far and it has not even started. I get about 15 emails a day from the person putting this on. For some reason I thought the event was at 10 and it's around 7 in the morning. The swim is manually timed. The bike course has 13 turns- 7 which are u-turns....and all the packet times during the week are from 6-8 so I get the pleasure of hitting traffic during packet pick up. |

![]() | ![]() I totally agree. This is my first tri and it's giving me a really bad taste. I thought about getting aero bars for my bike, but with u-turns every 1/2 mi there was no point. I'm worried about the swim time being accurate since they are just assuming a swimmer starts every 10 seconds. There is no back-up plan if the pool gets too congested. The run should be pretty nice though. I've already decided I won't do this one again next year and I'm pretty bummed that I won't have the good memories from my first tri like so many of you mention. Oh well. Live and learn. |

Guess I should have looked at the map before I decided to relay it. Bummed, I was going to hammer the bike for all it was worth. I agree the emails have been rediculous. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Am I reading this correctly: We proudly announce the North Cypress Medical Center Triathlon at Fairfield taking place on Sunday, October 10th beginning at 6:00am. Grab your bike, tennis shoes, and swim goggles for an invigorating trek through the Fairfield Community. The event will consist of a 300 meter pool swim, 10 mile bike, and 3 mile run followed by an award ceremony. The triathlon after-party will take place from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the Fairfield Athletic Club Parking Lot. Meaning the race starts at 6:00??? And the afterparty is not until 11? Won't we be done for several hours before the afterparty begins if it starts at 7? I'm more and more upset I signed up for this... |
