hey riders

after the amazingness that was the fourth annual tdf challenge i was wondering if anybody fancied doing a vuelta challenge?

think it should be fun and a great way to get bike miles in as we head back to school/college/just entering into autumn(fall)

what do you think?

I'm in! Same rules as the TdF challenge, or something different?

Your new avatar is hysterical.

Here's some Vuelta info. I wish Versus had the broadcasting rights, but they don't - which means we won't get any TV coverage here.

Running from Saturday Agust 28th to Sunday September 19th 2010, the 65th Vuelta a EspaƱa will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,400 kilometres. These stages have the following profiles:
11 flat stages
8 mountain stages
1 team time-trial stage
1 individual time-trial stage

Distinctive aspects of the race

6 summit finishes
2 rest days
14 km. team time-trial
46 km. individual time-trial stage

i think what might be fun would be to pick what percentage of the tour you will ride. i did 20% of the tdf distance, and will do the same for the vuelta. but it's up to you guys also. tbh i don't think they'll be huge amounts of us signing up so maybe just one team of euskatel/euskadi riders. orange always looks fab tbh

I'll sign up!  It will be my last chance to get some consistent cycling done outside before it starts raining gatos y perros.

I could be game.  I was planning my long ride of the month for the 20th (day after it ends - bummer).

Might as well go for 21 stages again and 1260 minutes.  I always liked the Basque team in Orange.

just doing spreadsheet guys. just the four of us, which imho makes it special!

spreadsheet now up, but need you guys to add your goals. btw can we make itr that youdo a % of the race distance (3400km). this is just to make it fun. hope that is ok for you peto, as you hoped to do minutes.

also: shall we have esukadi related avatars to show how fabulous we are?

I'm in for 5% of the distance.  (Yeah, piddly, I know.)  That equates to 105.6 miles.  I've done one stage!  Let us know how to get to the spreadsheet when it's ready.

I'll go for just miles (%).  Probably fits my attitude for this late summer period better anyway.

I am going for 16%.
Now to go find some Euskatel pic

Hm. So I just asked you about the spreadsheet. Then I came here to re-read the thread. 'Cause I thought we'd talked about a spreadsheet. And here it is ^^^^.

OK, I'm off to set some goals.

Your not supposed to do things like that to your derailer.  Hope the ride home works for you.....

hit the trainer for 8.8 while watching the Vuelta after the kids went to bed.    Wanted to get something in.  Looks like my goal might be ambitious when I laid out what it would take to achieve it, so any extra miles I can sneak in will help.  This trainer time seemed like more work than my outdoor rides - especially the after dark ones - those are so low key and just cool....

Another day with no outside ride.   Kids to be, trainer, Vuelta.  I guess I am ok with that, but looking forward to a couple of good rides over the Labor Day weekend.
