NRDC's annual survey of water quality monitoring and public notification at U.S. beaches finds that closings due to bacterial contamination are on the rise nationwide. Across the country, pollution caused nearly 20,000 days of closings and advisories at ocean and Great Lakes beaches last year -- more than ever recorded in the survey's 15-year history. The 2005 survey is based on information reported for 2004.

Take that back you crunch granola tree hugging enemy of free enterprise

Those are all lies spread by the anti work, anti business lobby. It is part of the left wing conspiracy to preserve this planet for generations that won't ever pay taxes or line the pockets of officials currently in office. Spreading propoganda like that on a board where people do open water swims what are you thinking!?!

My husband has asked me to post that it is because all the triathletes are peeing in the water. His name is Gene and if you would like to take issue with him I would be MORE than happy to supply you with his e-mail addy! I whacked him with a pillow personally.

They are definitely around here, I don't know about the on the rise part. I get worried about the blue-green algae when swimming, but I worry more about Murphy since he tends to swallow a good bit of water when swimming in fresh water. I never go where there are blooms to swim of let him swim, but it is still kind of freaky...
