Run
Comments: Plan was to get dialed in the first 1/3rd, make any adjustments the middle 1/3rd and then push it down a little final leg. Was planning/wanted to run 7:10-7:15. I knew this was pretty aggressive given my current fitness but I felt good warming up and wanted to push myself. Felt good through the first mile (7:03) and I felt like I did a good job (unlike a lot of people around me) not getting sucked along with the fast pack at the front. Mile 2 was a steady climb so I was happy with my split (7:33) and felt like I was in a good place. Felt was good given my plan but I just wasn't able to execute in middle third. Mile 3 was pretty much down hill so I should have done better than I did but mile 4 was pretty rough (it included a short step hill both ways on the out and back and then back up most of the hill from mile 3). I decided not to try to turn it up right at 4 since there where still some hilly. I tried to pick it up once I got through these (approx 4.25) but just couldn't keep the pace. I'd drop down to right around 7:00 for a couple hundred yards would be back up to 7:30 (or higher). I felt really comfortable (almost too comfortable) and like I was autopilot and I couldn't change anything one way or the other. Post race
Warm down: Went inside for hot cider then walk the last quarter middle back from the finish to chear people on. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness. Just haven't been training that much since last Tri in Sept. Also still need to focus on speed work (get comfortable with the discomfort) because I don't feel like I'm pushing myself as hard as I can. Event comments: Race is out South River HS and they let you into the cafeteria to regster, etc. Was really nice to have a place inside to get out of the cold. Currently listed in the results as "A. Bandit". They didn't use timing chips (even looked at me funny when I asked) and instead tore of the bottom of your bib number when you crossed the line. They were pretty annoyed (and told me so) when I didn't have mine. I assumed the tab on the bib was (like most placed) for a race premium and since I already had my t-shirt I tore it off before the race. obviously my mistake but they should have made it clear this is what they used the tabs for. But frankly, I was more annoyed that they gave me grief about it at the finish line. Last updated: 2010-10-12 12:00 AM

Cereal and nuts for breakfast. Made a pot of coffee but forgot to bring any. Stopped at Wawa and they gave me a free cup of coffee for no particular reason.
Slow jog around the parking lot. Went back inside to stretch. Then back around the parking lot with a few strides and lap around race pace. Felt good and that I had pace dialed in.
