WHEN CAN YOU START MENTORING CONSISTENTLY: I am ready to roll. My Tri training starts Jan 3, so all aboard!

NAME:
Jford2309/James

STORY: I am a 38 yr old husband and father of three of the coolest boys on the planet. I work full time as a Corporate Investigator and I started doing triathlons about 4 years ago. I really got into tris for the competition piece of the races, and not against the other races, but more to compete about myself. I like to set goals for myself and those goals are based on my "goals", not my placing in a race.

FAMILY STATUS: married going on 14 years, 3 boys (11, 9, and 2)

CURRENT TRAINING: I am training for several races this year from trail races to super sprint-Olympics and a HIM in Sept.

2010 RACES:
In 2010 I did a 5k, 10k, half marathon, 4 sprint triathlons, 1 super sprint, and my first ever DNF on my first ever HIM.

2011 RACES:
This year I am hitting alot of the saem races again. I am also adding some trail runs for something different, but my main goal is to go back and finish IM Branson!

WEIGHTLOSS: This has fortunately not been a huge issue for me.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTOR:
This will be my second time as a mentor and one of the coolest things about it is seeing people hit their golas of finishing their first triathlons, or their first Olympic race. It is awesome! I don't know all the answers to all the questions, but I have been around here long enough to say that I know who to get the answers from. I like to have fun and I am looking for an interactive group where everyone can bring something to the table. There is nothing more motivating than to know that someone will know if you skipped a workout, and it is something I need as well! I have made alot of good friends from being in this mentoring process and hope to create some more bonds.

Dear James,

My name is Keevin Galbraith and I would like to join your group.

I workout 5 to 6 days a week.  During the winter I have been running more than anything, and try to get a bike workout in when I can.  I will get on the bike a lot more during the spring and summer.

I found out I have a torn rotator cuff so swimming is out till I am told otherwise.

I have been competing in Triathlons for two years.  I have completed 4 sprints and 1 Olympic tri.

I began mountain Biking and love it.  I would like to try an Xterra race this summer.

I plan to compete in 4 or 5 more triathlons or Duathlons this summer.

I hoped to compete in a HIM but my wife was not excited about 3 to 4 hour workouts.  This is still a goal of mine.

Before competing in Tri's I was a Professional Lacrosse Player for eight years.

I currently teach PE and Health and am in Grad school for Special Education

I have been married for five years and have a two year old daughter.

I look forward to your help.

Keevin

Keevin, have you thought about getting an indoor trainer for your bike? This way you can ride at anytime of the day or night. Andy Potts does 80% of his training on the indoor trainer, so that has to mean it can be beneficial!  there are all kinds of workouts one can do with Spinervals and such!

James,

Thank you for the message.  I actually have an indoor trainer and I use it throughout the winter. However, I am always caught up on using the bike for a long period of time.  Well, maybe not a long period of time, but no less than 45.

For me I always have an hour window from the end of school, and when pick up my daughter.  I use that time for a 30 to 40 minutes run.  That would be a good time to get on the bike too.

I think the spinerval tapes would be a good idea.  That way I can complete a tought work out in fewer time.  Good idea.

Not in the least! We are all triathletes here or will be. I just like to help and watch people hit their goals, and we all have different goals. So I do not want anyone to feel they aren't on a certain level or compared to others in here. I am hoping that this group will be a group that everyone can learn something from someone else and all celebrate the goals each person meets!

You are more than welcome to join!

Hi, I am interested in the mentor program.
I am a longtime runner with a passion for adventure racing.  I did 3 sprint tri's last year and 2 in 2009.  A buddy convinced me to join him for an attempt at IM Louisville 2011.
The most logical training program I could think of to use is from this website.  Since it is a 20 week program I am looking to start it in April.  Up until then I am building a base of swimming and biking (my worst area by far).

Goal - Finish IM standing up with enough energy to enjoy abourbon with my family afterward.

Current training - 7.5 - 9 hours between swim/bike/run + lifitng 2-3 times per week.

Family - I am a stay at home dad with my own business.  I have 3 kids (14, 9,7) and a wife that runs 2-3 1/2 marys per year.

Last year - Louisville marathon - 3:37:50
                  3 sprint tri's (500 m, 13, 3.1)
                  3 6-8 hour aadventure races
                  Monumental Marathon - 3:30:35

I am looking forward to hearing fromthe group and "working" together to aid our common goals.

Hey guys,

So, my story.

I'm 40 years old, live in the small town of Lomma in the south of Sweden together with my girlfriend, our 2 kids (3 Year old son and 1 year old daughter), a crazy doberman dog and 2 cats.

I've rarely been involved in any sports in my life. Grew up as a fat kid. 220lbs when i was 13 and i never looked back.
Countless times have i set up some kind of fitness goal. I've kept at it for a few months and then went back to doing nothing except eating burgers and pizzas washed down with coke. I maxed out at 311lbs. Been going up and down between 240 and 310lbs 5 or six times.

New years eve 4 years ago i sat across a ordinary looking guy at the table at the party and he told me about something he called ironman. When he told me about it i thought NO WAY he could do that! The next thought was that If he could do it, maybe i could to?

Enlisted a colleague to the project and of we went. I rapidly lost 30lbs, and then i lost my way and just stopped. Now it's 4 years later and i've done that exact thing 3 times (and unfortunately blogged about it all). i'm sick and tired if repeating this pattern, and i'll give it one more go before i just say screw it all. :-)

This last gasp of a project started out in september last year, lost around 25lbs and fell of the wagon a bit in December, but managed to get it together after new years eve.

I can barely swim, longest i ever ran was 5k 20 years ago, i have however been on the bike a little. Longest race was 130Km.

I have no races planned this year, i'll am at getting down to 220Lbs for the first time in 27 years by august 1 this year. Hopefully manage to build a bit stamina by then. Maybe even get in the pool. I've got (and read them) the total immersion books, and they always makes me wanna go swim.

I'm currently 4 days into the Paleo diet, and it feels great.

You all seem very experienced, and i look forward to pick your brains and be a part of the group.

I confess I did nothing this weekend except try to get over this head cold I have. My intentions were solid, but my actions were weak. I am going to try and get in a swim at lunch time today.

My first triathlon is May 22 (Memphis in May Olympic Triathlon) and I will start that training plan on Jan 30, so I am really trying to build me base for this month.

Hey James, if there is still room () I'm in!

NAME: Nicole83- not rocket science here kids

STORY: I have no idea how to sum me up in a short enough span that I would expect anyone to actually read it.    I'm 27 living in Tampa Florida.  Haven't raced in quite awhile but have several under my belt from a few years back.  I enjoy the training process more than the races themselves, but have a few that I want to do in 2011, so if you all can keep me on track to not chicken out right after I pick up my packet, that would be apprecited.

FAMILY STATUS: Married to a non-triathlete and at times non-supportive (but still totally awesome) man.

CURRENT TRAINING: Just started the BT HIM plan, I'm just under 17 weeks out from FL 70.3.

2010 RACES:
Uh, I was registered for a few.  I cheered on NRG at a half, does that count?  What if we got drunk after?  Does that make it count?  No???  Ok fine, I didn't race in 2010.

2011 RACES:
The big one is the FL 70.3 in May.  Also want to run a half in the fall and do a few olympics.

WEIGHTLOSS: Yep... working on it.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD Groupie:
I like cheering people on, so be prepared to be "inspired" randomly.  You might even get a real legitimate cheer written by yours truly complete with pom poms and pigtails for your A races, so be sure to keep the group updated on what's up with you.

Nice to "meet" you all and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hey Everyone!

Hey James, read your bio and I am about the same age been married 15 years, professional and have 1 child. Figured you would have a great insight on juggling everything.

Want to do the Ironman in Kona in 2012. I have been riding about 20-40 miles every other day. Doing core training here and there. Alot of foam rolling to get the junk out of my muscles.

I also run here and there. I started doing some biking then going out and running.. Man that is HARD... The biggest thing I need to get over is the swimming.
When I was a kid I was like a fish, swallowed a ton of pool water, got violently sick and ever since have mental issues with water...

Weight loss won't be an issue.
Hope to get some great ideas!

Thanks!
