Run
Comments: The goal was to finish (not much of a goal since I knew I could) so the pace was slightly faster than my weekend long runs. Passed a guy receiving CPR, which was different. Nice run. What would you do differently?: The last mile had three pretty good "hills". I didn't go hard enough over them. Don't know what I was saving myself for. Post race
Warm down: Here's where I really blew it. After the race I walked around a very little bit. Then I stopped and re-fueled. Later my lower left leg got sore (both calf and shin). I figured that was just normal. What I didn't know until later was that fluid was building up down there and I was suffering something like compartment syndrome. It didn't go away until I did some bike riding over a week later. Lesson learned: do not ignore the cool down after a long run. Keep walking. When I get home, elevate the legs. Go for a bike ride the next day. What limited your ability to perform faster: My longest run before the race had been 12 miles. I need to do longer long runs. Oh, and keep training. Event comments: Great support out on the course. Drinks every mile. Girl Scouts cheering us on ("Run like the wind!" was my favorite). Well-organized. Nice technical shirt. A friend who has done several halves and fulls said that this was one of the most enjoyable races he's entered and will do it (probably the full) next year. Last updated: 2010-07-26 12:00 AM

Last meal was lunch the previous day. No dinner. Woke up, drank some Gatorade, and drove to the course.
Short jog, maybe 1/4 mile, and I was good to go.
