Subject: iTunes library question

Short story long...laptop crashed, iTunes library was on it, no backup.  Bought a new laptop and installed iTunes on it.  When I connect my iPod Classic to the new laptop it wants to sync with the new library (which doesn't contain anything).   I don't want to do that cuz it will delete most of the stuff on my iPod (I think that's what will happen).  How can I copy the content of my iPod to my new laptop iTunes library so they contain the same files?   I tried the HELP feature but it didn't have the answer.  Thanks

 I have also heard that Apple can grant a 1 time re download of purchased songs if you submit a request.

Nope, this only works with purchased music and media if you transfer purchases first on an authorized machine. If you have any non apple purchased music, it will erase it. Sync works one way.

There are plenty of 3rd party programs which will copy from the ipod back to the computer, some of which are free.

If I authorize the new computer, it will only sync itunes purchases from the ipod to the new computer? All other pirated stuff gets erased? Ahh, I see where Birkie said "most" of his stuff... seems kind of loopy that apple would do that. Actually chicken **** fits the bill. Love my apple toys, but Steve-O does lock things down to his advantage.
