Flashing rear light-wide frame mount?

Master  3058    South Alabama |  Subject: Flashing rear light-wide frame mount?I've been looking for a good flashing red light to mount on the seat stays of my frame. Its a carbon frame and the stays are quite wide. I have a bag under the seat but a light does not mount very well on the bag (light points upward instead of to the rear). The seatpost is also very wide and I would be unable to mount bag there if light was on the seatpost. Anyone found a good blinking red light that has "wide" mount option. Most lights, including the ones I currently have seem to either clip onto a bag or mount on a smallish round frame. Thanks Randy |

I was in the same predicament and didn't find a suitable replacement for an aero seat stay without jerry-rigging it with wire ties which didn't work well either. Even tried velcroe to attach it to my aero seat post and that was also a fail. My solution is the xlab blinky for my xlab wing. Screws into the back of the xwing. |

Put a light in my jersey pocket. (Most bright ones will easily shine brightly through most jerseys.) 2. Replace the strap or whatever mounting mechanism it has with a strip of velcro. Sometimes a strip of rubber is needed between the velcro and the frame to keep it secure. 3. Electrical tape. (My solution to many bike problems!) |

Electrical tape. (My solution to many bike problems!) Bingo! I have a SuperFlash mounted on my bike via copious amounts of electrical tape. It is only visible when I don't have my seat rack on, but I use a bento box for 95% of my rides, so it's not an issue. Me seatpost is aero and the normal mounting kit didn't work, so I 'McGyvered' it! |

They use 2032 batteries which aren't as cheap or easy to get off-the-shelf as AA/AAAs but you can buy the batteries really cheap online. I also just found out they DO come in rechargeables. I'm planning to pick up a charger and a pair or two of the batteries when the weather warms up. http://www.rei.com/product/813862 http://www.serfas.com/product_details.asp?ID=598 The stretch loops give you some (literal) flexibility in mounting options. I have the loops going down and then around the seat stays and looped over some of the bulbs to hold it under my saddle facing out the back.  Hmm. Guess I need to clean under the saddle. Couldn't get it anywhere lower, given the clearance above the tires and the curves of the frame. Took a while to figure out the placement of the loops, but the position shown holds tight and all the lights face the right direction. -eric |
