No thread yet? I'm excited to race this one. I did an Olympic at the venue when College Nationals were hosted there.

Wow, quiet group for Buffalo Springs!  I went looking for this thread and almost couldn't find it!

Anyway, I'll be signing up this week.  Training has kicked off with some pretty lofty goals.

Anyone raced this course before and could give some advice on the course?

Short, steep hills on both bike and run. Prepare accordingly. Did the Oly last year in May, and my wife did the half. Oh yeah, it's hot. Really hot.

My buddy and I just signed up tonight.

Anybody know of a good map/elevation graph of the bike course? The one I found here on BT made it look like the climbs are only 60-90 feet in elevation change. Can't be right.

We did IM Louisville together last year and our BT Forum was chatting for MONTHS leading up to the race.

Where is the enthusiasm? Where is the excitement? Where is the love?

We just raced CapTex here in Austin and had a blast.

Brian

Wow...not much enthusiasm here. I'm doing it, going to be my first Half distance, so I'm definitely excited/scared about that. Don't have a training group, so if anyone wants to meet up on Saturday to drive the course, I'm game (my wife doesn't think driving a 70 mile circle sounds like fun

Stephen-My buddy and I drive in from Austin Saturday. I'm not sure of our schedule yet know we plan to drive the course. Have to pickup packets, check into hotel, etc as well.Let's keep in touch and as it gets closer we can coordinate a meet up!We went and did a long ride today. 68 miles. Did a double dam loop here in Austin. That was much harder than we anticipated. I think this course might eat us up!Keep up the chatter! We'll get others piping up shortly! :-)Brian

It's windy, dusty and hot here!  We just went by the expo which is pretty small, and are just waiting around until packet pickup opens at 5pm.

FYI, the waves have been adjusted to earlier time slots.  Check the webpage for your new start time.

Just looked at the forecast. Says Sunday's high should be 107. My plan is to be off that course as soon as possible! We get in Saturday around 11 or so. We plan on attending the talk at noon with Sister Nancy. I think I have the name wrong. She is the nun that has done dozens of IM races including Kona. We're getting a blessing before the race for sure! We'll drive the course after that like around 1 or 2.Hopinh to meet some of you out there!JROLL I recognize your profile picture as being from Galveston. Great race there!Brian

If you look at the hour by hour breakdown, it won't be too bad.  Well, it'll be hot, but almost everyone should be off the course before it reaches triple digits.  It's not supposed to break into the 90s until 11am and won't be over 100 until 1-2pm.

Painful day!  Hope everyone is out of the heat and doing alright.

Finished in just under 5hrs.  Had a great swim and solid bike, but fell apart on the hills during the run.

Ouch! That is gonna leave a mark!My buddy and I have determined that in fact, you CANNOT train LAST year for THIS year's race. We naively believed we could jump from CapTex last month to BSLT 70.3 this month. My buddy actually did finr. He went 5:30. I left him waiting 45 minutes for me. It was ugly. Slow bike, ugly back half of the run. This course lived up to its reputation! I was properly schooled and humbled by it.;-)Hope others had a better day.Look forward to reading your recaps! Anyone know is Sister Madonna madee the cutoff? I saw her on mile 3 of her run. Hope she did ok. My car says 114 degrees as we roll out of Lubbock. Ugh!Post soon!Brian

She had to stop at Mile 9.5 since she exceeded the cutoff time.  You could tell at the awards dinner that she wasn't too happy about that.  Great lady.

Sister Madonna was thwarted by the heat on the run (as were many -- for some of us, that meant not making the time cutoff, which is a bummer).  I think she was okay with it, but they did have her run through the finish chute, probably because of her reputation, and I think she just wanted to be clear at the awards dinner that she DNF'd.  I was really happy to meet her out on the run.  She was of the opinion that she won't be doing that race again.
