Swim
Comments: I was happy with my swim times as this was probably my best swim of the year. The water was a bit warm for a wetsuit. I really started to overheat about 1/3 of the way through the course. I had to stop every few minutes and let my suit fill with water to try and stay cool. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I was happy with the bike portion of my race. I was shooting for around 2:45 on the bike and would have made it on a course that was actually 56 miles. I tried not to push it too hard so that I would have something left on the run, but I was still lagging at the end of the run anyway. What would you do differently?: Get in more miles on the bike. I have sacrificed training time on the bike this year to spend more time with the family and improve my running times. Because of this my longest ride prior to the race had been just over 40 miles. I felt fine on the bike but probably could have done a bit better with additional training. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I felt pretty good coming off the bike. No problem with cramping or heavy legs coming off the bike due to the cooler temperature. It really started to heat up on the run though. I started out pretty well with the first 2 miles at about 7:15 per mile. My goal was about a 1:40 for the run and things were looking good at the start. Then as the run went on I kept getting slower and slower. My quads were starting to hurt and I couldn't maintain the pace that I wanted to. Not sure if I didn't eat enough or what but I just didn't seem to have the energy to maintain my pace. Post race
Warm down: Active Sports Release was there to help stretch out the athletes after the race. My quads were very appreciative of their effort! Event comments: Overall I was happy with my race and look to improve my run time in my next 1/2 distance race. That was the only part of my race that I was disappointed in. I entered the day with a goal of breaking 5:30 and just missed it by 3 minutes. Without the extra 2+ miles on the bike I would have made it. Last updated: 2005-08-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30. Rolled out of the tent and ate a bagel and power bar. Got all of my gear together and walked down to the transition area to finish with setting up my gear.
