Subject: Training program - a problem with swimming time vs distance

Hello,

I just started a training program and since I live in Israel - I have defined all measures to be metric.

In the swimming program there is a miscorrelation between time, distance and speed.

Example -

"Main Set:07m /350 meters

Set #1 07m Endurance
Pace: 02m 25s - 02m 08s /100 meters
Freestyle at Endurance pace, try to keep going without breaks and use regular "active recovery" strokes of 25 to keep moving. Try to gradually eliminate the "active recovery" sets. An active recovery stroke is one that you can do easily (back, side)."

To achieve 350m in 7 minutes I need to swim at 2min/100m- which is faster then the pace mentioned. Undecided

What figure should I (try to...) confirm to? the pace or the calculated speed?

Thanks.

This looks ok, the actual time is only going to be an approximation as we give you a pace range for the workout.

7.46 - 8.47 minutes would the exact time range from the given paces...we round it to 7.  And this is only to better plan your workout time needed.  As long as you stick with distance, or distance and pace, you will be fine.  Time is only an approximation to let you know about how long the workout will be....and remember, time does not factor in rest breaks or anything.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks Ron.

I will follow to the distance and pace recommendations. I also didn't understand that breaks are not included.

Two days ago I did the first timed swimming session, 1400m in 27 min (I actually bought for that a cheap water proof Casio wrist watch with a stopper function, since I have a Garmin 305 which is not water friendly) and I finished it in 35 minutes (with breaks) instead of the mentioned 27 minutes - which made me think I'm way off, but now it seems fine.

Thanks again.
