Subject: Friggin' screw!WARNING: This is a rant so you'll probably want to leave now!
This past weekend, while out on a century, the bottom bracket in my road bike started to squeak, squeak, squeak... So the other night I checked: the torque on the cranks--fine; pulled the chain-rings, cleaned, lubed, reinstalled--fine. Yesterday I bought a BB tool and took the non-drive cup off then moved to the drive side/cartridge. I unthreaded that bad-boy all the way but couldn't get it out. I knew it was loose but the damn thing wouldn't come out of the frame!
So, I figured I'd throw it in the car and take it to the LBS today, with my tail between my legs. But, as I put the frame down in the car, I noticed the little screw that holds the shifter-cable guide on the bike under the BB housing. I thought, man that's a little screw but I wonder... So, I loosened the screw and sure enough out comes the BB.
That friggin' screw... I had forgotten all about it--not that I had ever had one keep a cartridge BB from coming out.
In any event, the BB is clean, lubed, torqued and good as new! :D
And, yes, I do feel better for getting that out! Thanks for listening, if you didn't leave after the first sentence. Edited by MountainBreeze 2005-08-24 7:37 AM
