yes, we beat Miami. But I'm starting this thread early so it will save me time during the rest of the season. 1st and goal from the 1 yard line: 32 Belly; 31 belly, 34 wham, missed field goal. Brilliant play calling! Rix is gone Jeffy boy, you are working with your hand picked offense. No excuses now, get the job done or get out of town!

I think JB is sort of a figurehead now with the title of offensive co-ordinator. That new guy from Marshal, who is the "offensive line coach" supposedly installed a new system with a few new wrinkles on offense so they aren't so predictable. All that being said, I am dissapointed with the poor performance of the QB (Weatherford). It is hard to tell what has been happening with the Noles lately. Is it a lack of talent at reciever? At QB? You can have all of the talent in the world but the offensive co-ordinator needs to utilize a system that players can easily execute. The funny thing about that is, usually the simplest system works. You put your players in a situation where they can make plays for you. I'll take the win though. I can talk smack for at least until the ACC championship game

Agreed, there needs to be a wholesale retirement party for the Bowden Party..did you read this exchange? Early signs of dementia I think....BB on missed field goals..

"So odd, isn't it?" said Bobby Bowden, who might have another national title or two if not for his field-goal follies. "Did they hit any tonight?"

No, coach. (The final score was 10-7. Your guys had the 10.)

"Missed one?"

Missed two, coach. (You were there, right?)

"Missed two?" Bowden mused. "Sounds like Florida State."

He's losing it!

And the defense was good except for covering 82 or any passes thrown towards the corner #11...and Micky...RUSH MORE THAN 3...its a Rookie back there...nearly cost them the game!

But...we did win!!!!!!

The thing that I became strikingly aware of Monday is the problems at QB. My belief is the problems lie less with the individual players and more with the coaching. My argument is based on these facts/assumptions 1) We have had some of the top QB recruites in the country over the last 5 years. Rix, ACC frshman of the year under Mark Richt; Mcphearson, FLA Mr. Football, Drew Weatherford, a Blue chip player, and X. Lee the #1 rated dual threat QB in the country. 2) It's not lack of talent at the QB position. 3) How does a kid like Rix go from ACC freshman of the year to a complete second tier QB the next 3 years? What changed ? What changed was the offensive co. and the QB coach. 4) Under Richt we had some of the most potent wide out play of any team in the country. Richt was OC and Jeffy boy was wide receiver coach. 5) the play at wide out was considerably less than stellar last year. What changed? Jeffy is now splitting time as OC and wide receivers coach.

Look at the difference in coaching philosphies between Miami and FSU. Wright for Miami struggled, but the Miami staff understands that the young man is their starteer, and the only way to win is to get him experience and the only way to get him experience is to let him throw the ball and work through his problems, establish a rythm, and get comfortable. FSU on the other hand, the kid makes a couple of bad throws and a couple of bad decisions and the passing game is abandoned. How can he get better if he doesn't throw the ball.

In the past we were highly succesful with mediocre QB's: Casey Weldon, Chip Ferguson, Thad Busby, Danny mcMannus. Now we have better talent at QB but less success. What has changed?

i say let Jeffy step down as OC and go back to wide reciever coach only and fire Daryl Dickey the QB's coach. And most of all stop blaming the kids. The problem is from the top down!

Agree with you ASA. Also something to note is the recent lack of production the last fews years at the WR position. FSU always had very good recievers with EG Green, Kez, Vanover, Riley, Cooper...you get the point. But look what happened, the lack of output at QB resulted in FSU having no real threat at WR. But the guys get to the pros and become standouts. Look at Boldin, and Walker. Those guys are now elite pro recievers. You could argue that the recieving corps of the last five years was the stongest it had ever been, but unable to produce. WR's can't throw the ball to themselves...

Looks like your boys found someone they can put a real beat-down on, too bad there schedule isn't totally made up of psedo-obscure military academies.

Easy there, boys.  I haven't been this upbeat about FSU in a few years.  I feel the dark clouds are opening and the sun is peering through.  We've got two redshirt freshmen for QB's.  We're 2 and 0.  We started the Citadel game looking kind of rough, but finished up looking strong.  All 3 RB's had TD's.  This will be an incredible confidence booster for both the defense and the offence when we travel up to Boston College.  I'm not a Jeff Bowden fan, either.  Tallahassee is calling for his head.  But, Bobby is no fool.  I really believe FSU will do much better than anyone expects this year, particularly due to the fact that the expectations are so low.

The ACC is now a full fledged conference, able to compete, from a talent standpoint, with any conference out there, to include the SEC.  So, take your strength of schedule comments and put them where they belong.

Thank goodness we're not in the Big 12, that would really be something to be embarrased about.

I hope you're right about things looking up. BC might end up being the key game to the entire year. We will see what type of coach Jeffy is. I hope history doesn't repeat itself, in that that last several years we have seen an Offensive game plan going into a game, that game plan not working, and Jeff's inability to make in game adjustments. There has also been a tendancy to give up on the passing game if there are any interceptions or missed passes. Sure Drew and X lit it up against the Citadel, but they should have. The test will be if Drew struggles in the first quarter against BC, will Jeff/Bobby/Daryl let the kid work the kinks out or will they abandon the pass game altogether?

I get the sense that a win on the road at BC could start a chain reaction of confidence that we haven't seen in about 4 years.
