Total Time = 2h 49m 25s
Overall Rank = 12/31
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/7
Pre-race routine:

Cyled to station with Georgia, caught train to Seaford, then registered and set up transition.
Event warmup:

Got into wetsuit and had quick splash in sea to check current.
Swim
  • 24m 38s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Surprisingly choppy once in water but got round without much event. Couldn't see anyone else around me for most of the swim so no opportunity to draft. Long run (on shingle) out of sea and into transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing: I would need to devote more time to swimming (at expense of other sports) to improve further and there's more room for improvement on biking and running.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Time included in bike split.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, will gradually improve with more practice.
Bike
  • 1h 32m 9s
  • 25 miles
  • 16.28 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs didn't feel like they had much in them on this bike ride which seemed to go on forever.
What would you do differently?:

Cycling is now my real weakness. I really need to work on this for next year.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Time included in bike split. I was quite slow here, making sure I had what I needed rather than a quick in and out.
What would you do differently?:

Again, will gradually improve with time.
Run
  • 52m 38s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Very hot and slightly dehydrated (but water was sloshing when I drank from cup at turn point). Focused on person ahead. Good in the circumstances.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Considering I had run the IM only 2 weeks earlier this was pretty good.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and waited for Georgia, then had brief dip in sea to cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Having done IM only 2 weeks earlier so still in recovery period and limited speed training; my weak cycling.

Event comments:

The womens' results were separate from the mens, so my overall is overall out of the women only. This race was my last of the season, intended as an easy race to do with Georgia. It felt hard trying to go fast, especially on the run (I had held back from even trying on the bike as I could tell I had very little in my legs). An enjoyable race (though a bit disorganised) and fantastic weather - a lovely way to end the season.
