Yup, I'm in.

Start my IronFit 30 week plan tomorrow.  Got to fit it in with Noosa training though, at the end of Oct, so might be a bit up and down for now.

DONATO! Are you really coming? I will get to behold Thy Nerdiness again?

You jumped my gun starting this thread, way to go

Like Nigel, I'm doing Iron Fit, but also continuing to train for my Nov. 2012 mammoth channel swim in Indonesia, so it's gonna be a lulu trying to fit it all in!

D'oh.  I should have named the race "Ironman" instead of "IM" to be consistent.  I PM'd one of the moderators so hopefully he can fix.

Hi all, Congrats on getting in! I'm not registered as I am planning on doing a team. So I could just watch the frenzy today and calmly wait for the 20th September.

I'll be doing the swim...I think I'm insane!

Have fun training you lot. I look forward to cheering for you all on the day!

It should be worth it, if you read the details on the race! It should really be great!

Okay, folks, time to get this thread kick-started again IM Melbourne draws threateningly nigh!

I've done ZERO training up to now. The last 13 weeks, I have been enjoying dengue fever and repeated bouts of typhoid fever and am just now able to do very light training (like, 10-30 minutes at a time, very easy) and still have to rest a lot in between.

I'm going to do as much of Don Fink's Be Iron Fit "Just Finish" (just git 'er done!) program as I can. I'm going to go ahead and start the race, and accept that I will likely not finish. I'm cool with it. I've been at this sports game for a very long time and I know that relative to life, nothing's that important. I'm cool with just having a good experience as much as possible.

It occurred to me to bail on the race altogether, but this would be the FIFTH IM that I have signed up for (the first four I got at least halfway through the training) and not been able to do. I'm happy I got in and just want to go!

Hey Yanti

You'll finish!  You'll smoke the swim, the bike is silky smooth and should be quick, and the run will have nice scenery.....

I'm doing Iron Fit as well, but getting over an achilles issue so running has been very light! Other than that, everything else seems to be going ok, but I always get injured......

Will no doubt have an easy week with the holidays and then push on in the new year!

Hope all your training continues to go great!!

See you in March!

You guys are so sweet and really the best part of the trip will be seeing you

Managed a 45-minute "run" today ... hahaha ... it was a 35-minute speedwalk that was much faster than the 10-minutes of "zombie death shuffle" running I got in ... but this is progress!

See Yanti - it can be done.  Just build it slowly and you'll get there.

My running is building at the same rate as yours - hopefully my achilles is settling down.  Got to 45 minutes last night!  Might crack an hour soon!!!

Take it easy, and don't overdo it (again!!!!) :P

Sounds like we are in the same boat. Work seems to be getting in the way of training - just got back form 10 days in India (no real training opportunities).

Which hotel are you guys using?

Work really is going to get in the way now - heading off to a new client location the week after next, right on the other side of the city.  Will try and get as much done as I can but won't know what that's going to be until I get there.  Could well be a few early sessions......

As to which hotel?  I'm in Melbourne so will probably just base myself from home and drive down to Frankston early Sunday morning

The event schedule is now on the IM Melbourne website for those that haven't seen it.... Just browsing through it now.

You're scaring me, Nige!!! This is real!

Hope you can get some good workouts in ... I have to travel later next week as well, lots of unknowns, but since I can run anywhere and I can't always bike everywhere, I'm going to be cycling and swim heavy for the next few days in case the end of the week is primarily running.

My plans have taken a bit of a hit as well. We had a pretty full on storm here on Christmas day. Massive hail stones that fell for over an hour so I'm told. ( we were having a splendid time sipping(?!) champagne in my sisters spa(hot tub) at the time oblivious to the mess that was developing at home). Our house suffered considerable damage as a result. We were not able to live in our house for 10 days and even now we only have beds upstairs and the ceilings and walls have been ripped out of some rooms.Life is sorta returning to a pattern of sorts but we still have to deal with insurance, tradies etc. But, some how or other ill make it to the start even if I have to doggy paddle half the course.I am also doing Tough Mudder the following week so I could be in for sme laughs getting appropriately fit.Hope everyone is enjoying the training they are managing to fit in.See you in a few months.....ahahaha

To all of you - well done!  I am hoping to volunteer - still waiting for that to open.  Got heaps of friends racing so I need to get my best cheering voice on (only want to volunteer if I can be a catcher on the finish line!)

Please keep us posted on your training progress, I'm thinking of melbourne next year, not sure yet though.  Doing the Cairns Half equivalent in June, see how I go training for that around my busy life!

Have fun, stay safe!  If you want an open water swim workout, come down to Half Moon Bay Wednesdays 6.30pm.  Coach John Van Wisse it's $7 and it's awesome!  And yes we swam this week too......

Has anyone seen a profile of the bike course? I heard it is flat . . . but is that Swiss flat or Thailand flat?

Cheers.

the ride on Eastlink - it's not flat!  I drove it one end to the other a few weeks back in the car and noted the hills - particularly coming out of the tunnels.  However with these uphills come some awesome really fast downhills!   It's a freeway so it's wide and will be closed (I assume) to traffic.  Road is well maintained so the surface is smooth.

Crosswinds on this road are notorious.

The two tunnels are going to be pretty nasty, especially on the second lap.

But it is ridiculously smooth tarmac, and the last leg back to Frankston is net-downhill.  Bit if the wind picks up, all bets are off....!
