Pre-race routine:

I ate too much the night before, knew it while I was eating but did it anyway. stretched but nothing else really.I took water and some hydating drink on my bike. Didn't like the drink, way too sticky and messy

had been swimming laps in a 25 yd pool. this was a 50 meter pool. Gawd I was looking for the wall halfway down the pool; it is nice to be able to gain momentum on the push off.this makes me terrified to swim in a lake or other open water. Swam too fast but wasn't worried since it was just a short distance.

i didn't have a HR monitor, but know I went way too hard on first of 2 laps. It had a couple of real good climbs and one good downhill. the second lap I was really struggling and knew that I had gone too hard for what I had trained for.
