Pre-race routine:

Friday after work went to the packet pickup. It was cool checking out the expo show.

Sunday:
The alarm clock went off at 5:30, I got up at 6:00, since it was only a 10-mile drive, and I have this down as a C race.

Got to downtown about 7:10, found one place to park, they wanted $10.00, so I moved across the street for $5.00 (a much more reasonable price).

I did not change before I left home, so I put on my Team Javelin trisuit, Cannondale medium tights, Cannondale long sleeve under shirt, Pearl Izumi Attack socks under DeFeet Woolie Boolie socks, using my ASICS GT-2100 shoes. Grabbed my Fuel Belt 5k belt, Nike running hat, and Pearl Izumi Instinct Jacket (hey, I just did this event this morning so I still remember everything I had with me); all at the car (I have a wool poncho for changing). Forgot to take a GU gel (ugh), but hey it was only a 5k. Put my stuff into the trunk of the car and set the alarm.
Event warmup:

Walked the two blocks to the start area right in front of Comerica Park, luckily, I ended up parking just two blocks from the start line; I had been a bit turned around in the drive thru downtown Detroit. I walked around a bit, did some stretching to help with my joggers/runners knee, but I think two weeks of anti-inflammatories did a lot of good. Had to try to find a bathroom, the porto-jhons were too far away, but I found one in a parking garage. Tried to find some more water, I only had the two 7 oz bottles on my fuel belt (why do I seem to be the only person who uses one of these fuel belt things at the races I do?) Waited for the 5k racers to move up to the start line, used the porto-jhons down by the start line this time, still did not find any extra water. Tied my jacket around my waste and we were off. I was about 10 to 15 rows deep when the race started.

Comments:

I was pushing a bit of a slower pace then I know I am capable of doing (not that I am that fast, I think I am capable of doing 7:30 to 8:00 miles in straight 5ks). A good amount of the race is nondescript, which I think is good. My knees did well, I did not really start to feel anything until about mile two, and they did not even hurt until I went inline speed skating later in the afternoon. At about mile 1.5 I started to run with a lady in green pacing each other. We more or less stayed together the whole rest of the race. Got water at the one water station at just before mile two, got a free high five near mile 2.333. As we ran across the bridge going over I-75 again messing with my fuel belt to put the water bottle back in, I dropped my chap stick out of my trisuit side pocket, so I had to stop, go back on get it (luckily I did not drop my car keys). We ran into Ford Field, that ramp sure was steep, the lady and I were still together. I finished in about 25:55 (gun time was 26:15) my results pace was 8:21, I did not get my official time, and my watch I started late, and stopped late. I thanked the lady and headed up stairs after turning in my chip and getting my finisher medal.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe bring a extra junk water bottle with me to toss at the start. Maybe stretch a bit more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit before going to get a nice massage from two massage therapists at the same time, it was great!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The knee, and not wating to push it too hard.

Event comments:

There could have been more water at the start line. But other then that it was a good standard race.
