Comments: I completed the first half in 1:48 - then the wind picked up to 26 MPH gusting up to 33, then we hit the hills. The second half I completed in just under 2 hours - which is still pretty good for me. What would you do differently?: Stayed for another 2 hours at the finish line to hear my named announced for 2nd place in my age group. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate a Snicker Marathon bar (actually I ate 1/2 of it, my kids wanted some) What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills Event comments: This was Waco's second marathon. More people came out this year than last - but still a few problems. They didn't have mile markers out - so it was hard to know where you were at. They did mark 10k, 15k, 20k,etc..., but I'm not used to that and after running 20 miles my brain kind of begins to shut down. I did spend some time studying the course map that was marked with miles, so I knew roughly by location and street what mile I was at. Not enough porta-potties, it was mile 6 before I came across one. And since I was practicing not getting dehydrated, I REEAALLLY needed it. Overall a good race for Waco - only 63 did the full Marathon - but they had a 2 and 4 person relays going on, so you were never on the course by yourself. Last updated: 2005-09-27 12:00 AM

Got up too early, but was excited to have a low-key marathon here in Waco.
The forecast is for partly cloudy with a high around 70. It is 51 outside now at 6am. It seems to be good running weather!
Grits, toast, OJ and then later a banana with some Gatorade. The race starts at 7:30 - so I left the house at about 6:45
