Me and he wife caught AEON FLUX last night not really knowing what to expect as far as quality. The critics are really ripping it up with some calling it among the worst movies ever made. Regular people on the other hand have given it good marks with an overall "see it" stamp.

Well, I was always a fan of the animated shorts that use to show on MTV upon which this movie was based. I kept what I could remember of those shorts in mind as we entered the movie and that seemed to help. Both of us enjoyed the presentation very much. While the characters and plot line wasn't deep (who would expect a comic to be deep?) it was interesting enough to keep us entertained. The movie was fantastic visually and did a good job of bringing the previously animated world into reality. Also, Charlize Theron did a great job of personifying our lead character. My only complaint was that for realism Charlize could have lost a few more pounds. I remember Aeon being Kate Moss skinny. While Charlize was close she was still a bit oversized to truly match the animated image. I know, a very small detail.

Overall, YES! Go see this movie if you enjoy sci-fi action with not much emphasis on depth.

I agree critically bad, but visually entertaining. I saw Hackers earlier in the day so that helped AF since that was the last movie I had to compare it to (now THAT is one of teh worst movies ever made).

I also agree, Theron just doesn't fit the body type. The cartoon body was admittedly unattainable (at least not naturally), but she didn't seem to have been in the kind of physical shape you would have expected (i.e. Biel in Blade Trinity, Garner in Electra/Daredevil, J. Lo in Enough).

I was really wondering about it too. I couldn't imagine them matching the animated series closely enough to do it ANY justice.

I never pay attention to critics anymore. I've seen a few movies that I thought were amazing, that the critics just ripped apart. I swear they rip movies apart just to rip them apart.

I've always assumed that's because it's easier to be glib, funny and mean than it is to be glib, funny and nice (see www.mrcranky.com for a prime example, that site wouldn't be nearly as funny if it were praising movies).
