I've been diabetic for twenty-one years and have recently started training for triathlons.
The main priority is to ensure continuity of sugar levels, not too high and not too low. If you check sugar levels, via a blood or urine test, before and after you train then you will be able to make adjustments to either insulin levels (to lower sugar levels ) or carbohydrate intake (to increase sugar levels ).
I always carry glucose tablets when running or cycling and it is probably a good idea to carry identification, detailing medical conditions and relevant information.
You can also train with a partner who is aware of your medical condition and knows how to assist if you feel unwell.
Ultimately, training for a triathlon will allow you to monitor your body with a far higher degree of scrutiny, it's also one hell of a lot of fun!
