Subject: Tampa Florida question??
My wife and I are flying to Tampa in March.
We would like to rent a vehicle while we are there.
It is easy to book a standard rental car online, and we might.
However, we are having trouble finding a place to rent a vehicle we might be willing to pay a little more for.

We'd like to rent a Jeep Wrangler, or maybe a Smart car, but can't find any places that rent these in Tampa. Do you know anyplaces that we could?

Any other ideas for interesting cars to rent for a week?
Money is a consideration, but not totally limiting. (Read no Ferrari's, etc)

You're from Canada, coming to Florida, I say go with a rag top. Oh, and while you're visiting our fair state please use sun screen. I hate seeing you northerners all red and crispy while you're on vacation.

Convertible only way to go.

There are a ton of Car rental places. If you rent at the airport be prepared to pay a large airport tax.

No one knows where we can rent a Jeep Wrangler or a Smart Car?
My wife really wants to rent a Jeep.

Hmm, how about suggestions as to what to do while we are in the Tampa area?
We will be camping at Fort Desoto.

Ft DeSoto is nice.  There are several tris there throughout the year.   We have camped there also with a group of four other families.

No idea about the jeep, though.  There's tons of things to do here.   Just gotta narrow them down to what you wanna do.

Hold off a few months and you might catch a Yankee's game. Oh yea, the DevilRays may be there also.

I'm not a baseball fan. So waiting for spring training is not on the agenda.

We were thinking:

Busch Gardens
Evening Sailboat cruise
Lots of beach time
Rent some bikes for a day

Other ideas welcome.

I guess I will have to settle for a more conventional rental car.
Oh well. I don't intend to go to florida to sit in a car all day anyways.

Do you want outdoors things? The real Florida? Or the tourist experience? There are soo many choices

Jeep might be hard to find, Ford or Chevy SVU will be the closes thing you will find. I'm not sure what a smart car is, does it drive for you?

Can't help you on the rental car sitch - I don't usually rent cars here.

You might want to plan a dinner at The Hurricane Restaurant which is about 15 mins from Ft. DeSoto. Take the road out from Ft. DeSoto back out to the main road, turn left, follow that to the beaches, turn left. It will be on your left. It is a bit of a tradition to watch the sunset over the water with a fruity alcoholic beverage in one hand, your woman in the other.

You can rent bikes at Ft. DeSoto.

We would probably be looking for a mixture of tourist stuff, and the reall Florida experience.
My wife and I tend to be active, outdoor people, but the odd museum visit does occur.

Thanks for the restaurant tip. I'll keep it in mind.
Any specialty other than the "fruity drink" at sunset?

Smart is a brand of car, just like Ford, GM, etc, built by Mercedes actually.
They are very small, mostly diesel, commuter cars that have been around Europe for years, but only in North America for a little over 1 year.
I'd just like to experience driving one.

You wont find a smart car.

I'm not sure how far you want to drive but my hit list would be

Bush Gardens, way cool animals with a good mix of rides.
Cape Canaveral, The space program is way cool.
While I'm on the east coast I would stop at long johns surf shop, it's a pretty cool place and you can take a dip in the ocean, Ohhh do I miss the Ocean.
Canaveral National Shores is a nice place also.
For a little night life I would head over to Chruch Street in Orlando.
If you like fishing FL has some of the biggest Bass you will ever see and you can catch them in just about any lake / pond.

Central Fl has a decent network on highways / interstates and you can get to could get to anyof these places for a day trip.
