Subject: RE: new wetsuitI use a ProMotion wetsuit, and have been very happy with it. I have the 2003 Fluid Drive Sleeveless and also bought their Tri Sleeves. Tri Sleeves are a jacket-like top that convert a sleeveless into a full suit. Definitely a good value for the cost, since I essentially got 2 wetsuits for under $250! (I've worn the sleeveless/sleeve combo in 60 and 63-degree ater, and the sleeveless in 77-degrees. )
As for how they compare to other suits, I have been impressed, but then I'm not a great swimmer. Still, my "birthday suit" best in the pool for IM distance is 1:37, while my recent wetsuit race swim was 1:25, so it definitely makes me faster. It seems durable, as I've done 3 races without any visible wear.
The latest issue of Triathlete (I think ) had a wetsuit review, but I couldn't find it online. Their take was that it's not as flexible as some of the "big names", but I haven't had any issues with that. I'd say, if you're looking for top-of-the-line, you might check out the Aquaman metalcel, or Orca P-flex, but you'll be paying well over $400. Until you're at that level, the ProMotion suits are just fine. |
