Overall Rank = 62/350
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 8/19
Pre-race routine:

crap my guts out, Cliff bar and Coffee
Event warmup:

Easy warm up
Swim
  • 02m
  • 100 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

seemed to pass a few people even though it was only 100 yds
What would you do differently?:

uh, maybe go in a pool a train a few laps.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

T1 was run to swim. I suck at transitions. There is always a problem. I had a common one today. couldn't get the stupid helmet strap to click in.
Bike
  • 31m
  • 10 miles
  • 19.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I was strong for the bike, it seems like my technique and my ability to spin are much better than before.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to train more.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

T2 was bike to swim. I was much more efficient than T1 and was able to pass a few people on the way over to the pool even.
Run
  • 21m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I always feel like I have more speed in me but just can't push it out.
What would you do differently?:

AS always I don't train nearly enough. 10-12 hours a month doesn't cut it. I crushed my prior PR on the course by about 8 minutes, but that's because I used to train 3-4 hours a month.
Post race
Warm down:

stretch but not enough. Eat burgers and drink beers with my wife and a friend who came up from Newport Beach for the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training.

Event comments:

This is my local hometown race. It seems to be running smoother than it used to. Overall a fun well run race but amateurish. They need timing chips to get exact split times. Also should have enterance and exit of transition on opposite ends so that early rackers don't get an unfair advantage: I see enterance exit in the same spot at a lot of races and its just stupid and annoying.

Course: Course was good. It was draft legal, but very little drafting going on that I could see. Essentially it was two loops of constant moderate uphill and back down. Also I think the course was shorter than the advertised 10 miles. Maybe 8 1/2 or 9?

Course: Good time for me, but it felt slow. I was still hurting from my run on Thursday for no particularly good reason. My thoat felt dry, and just couldn't push more. I was inspired to go faster when a dude with 2 prosthetic legs passed me! I ended up passing him up 1/2 mile later but geez he was moving quick and looked comfortable.
