When I was 37 years old, I entered the Mt. Washington NH hillclimb, running race, a 7.6 mile run up a relentlessly steep grade.  My goal was to break the 2 hour mark and I made it by 3 seconds.  Last year I entered it again, 20 years later, and at age 57 I broke my previous time by over 2 minutes.

I love it when I can do stuff that lets me look old age in the face and spit right in it's eye!

We do a 100k relay race in michigan every year (Dances with Dirt).  Five man teams, through bush, swamp, rivers, woods, hills...well you get the picture.  Two years ago I had a leg that absolutely broke me...six miles and it took about 1:30 to finish.  We crossed a muddy river about five times, and the rest was just swamp, once we got into the back half of the leg.  I was dead, just about ended my day...

As we were setting the rotation for last year, we had agreed to take all new legs...I told everyone..."F that, I am taking leg 6 again"...They all saw what shape I was in after the previous year, after that leg, so they didn't mind giving it up.  I had determined to own that leg year, and wasn't taking no for an answer.

56:00

Now I can pass that leg on...
