GMAT aids?

When I took it in 01 I just bought one of the test prep books which was pretty good. I dont remember which one it was but I have a feeling to compete in the market they are all pretty consistent. Good luck. It reminded me alot of an ACT with a essay section in it.

I would be interested in this as well.

I bought the Kaplan study book for the GMAT. It came with a number of practice exams for the computer, which is really the most important thing; practice, practice, practice.

This is all I needed to do well on the GMATs, but I had also already been through grad school, and had gone through the process of taking the GREs, which are similar.

Which MBT programs are you applying to?

I don't even remember what brand of test prep book I used when I took the test 7 years ago. Based on what I heard, most people prefer the prep book published by GMAC themselves which contact questions that were actually in prior exams. As for the writing portion of the exam, check out the list of essay topics that will be used in the exam.

i love the way when people post spelling pics they rename the file "tyrant" i think its cute.



I plan on applying to USC's Marshall School of Business (it helps admission knowing alot of people from undergrad, Faculty and the such; but i still want to have all my ducks lined up, a GREAT GMAT score will be a good thing to have...), their accounting program is ranked high. I hope to "pull strings" with a few professors (really well connected with execs in the accounting firms) and get a job with one of the big four (i would like PWC) and get **them** to pay for grad school (one fulltime semester, then part time untill done). I know it can be done, but it can be hard to get it all worked out. (it will require at least one professor making a phone call with comment like "this guy is very smart, dont let him get away from you....")

Of course one of my professors has told me that when we do our group presentations that "if you really want to get connected, you better not have that damn mohawk" (since we are being graded by a panel of accounting execs). I am amazed at how crazy the USC "netwrok" is; but then again when im paying 40K a year, i guess i should get something more than a dang t-shirt.

Hey Guys!

I work for Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions., Graduate Program Coordinator. I can tell you what you need to know about the tests, how to study, how to deal with CBT/CAT, etc.

I would absolutely recommend getting your hands on a GMAT Pocket Guide. I might have a few of these laying around somewhere...... Just ask.

Also, if you are going to prep with retail materials, make sure the software or cd rom offers CAT tests. This stands for Computer Adaptive Tests and will mimic the actual test (the difficulty level will increase and decrease based on last question answered). Many sell practice tests online but they are just CBT (Computer Based Tests). Many times these programs will just offer linear testing, this would be like a test you would take paper and pencil.

Kaplan actually has a deal with testing company that administers the GMAT (Pearson Vue-just changed from prometric). If you prep with Kaplan you can take an actual GMAT, at the testing center, and the score won't count. It's called the Power Prep. It's actually pretty cool.

also a second question to the people here, how much prep time should i give. Im looking at starting like i said with a huge immersion late this summer, and throughout the year.... is that too much?

I'm in beginner chat right now. Prep time depends on your starting score and your goal score. Hve you taken a practice exam yet to see where you're at?

no im just starting my quest into my GMAT score, hence my intial question... just starting out.

whew....snappy. Right on right on. "Starting out" can be a very relative term. I just meant, when you are starting out, it's best to take a practice test to see what your gauge is. If there is a kaplan center in your area you can call them and set up a free practice test. This test will be paper and pencil, but you can force yourself to take it CAT style. It's very acurate, I've found with our students, in giving you a pretty good idea of where you would be without any prep. It will also give you diagnostic reuslts. That way, when you start studying you will know exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are.

they have kaplin test centers? Im was cracking up at the "relative" BC i use that everyday at work (i work for kinkos, and get "i need alot of copies" or "its a big file" and i say the same thing.) I didnt realize you work for kaplin, untill i read your profile. Are kaplin questions from actual past tests?

new as in i just barely read the format of the sections. i just know the GMAt is in 3 sections, and what they are.

They actually gave you your scores on those tests? Sheesh, I don't recall ever receiving my scores from those tests.
