Pre-race routine:

This time I did nothing. I wasn't sure I was going to run it till about an hour and a half before race time when I got up. The weather is just crappy. It is cold and rainy and there is no way I could do anything more than a 2K today. I had some water but nothing to eat.
Event warmup:

I jogged a little to keep myself warm and keep the blood flowing. My shins were hurting before the race so I made sure to stretch. Otherwise it was trying to keep dry which was hard with a ton of other people.

Comments:

It was just hard. It was a fun run for a bunch of little kids and there were some adults and we were just all cold and wet. The national anthem became a group sing and that was really cool. I didn't start across the start line for 14 seconds because of the mass of kids in front of me. It was really neat to see so many people running like that for fitness. Some of these kids ran too fast not knowing about pacing and others just kept on flying by. I had to worry about the kids in front of me either stopping or changing pace so I ran this more to just run the race. I don't remember the last time I have run a mile or more and not had to walk through some part of it. It was a great feeling to know I did it for the first time in a long time. Then there was the cute finisher's medal at the end and the bubbles that I had some fun with in the rain. Man it was cold!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This was the biggest race I had participated in so far. The next one will be just as big. It was an experience to see these kids run and that was the whole thing. The experience. Not the time or the distance but the experience.
Post race
Warm down:

I just kept walking which was hard with the number of kids there. I got my finishers medal and celebrated with some milk and a mini clif bar. I should remember not to eat apples! Bad!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The kids, but that was okay. They were doing something wonderful for their bodies and that makes it alright.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed it. It was an experience and one that I will remember for a long time.
