Subject: Muncie 70.3 or Steelhead 70.3?
Looking at my first HIM next year, I can't decide between muncie and steelhead. I'm near kokomo indiana so muncie is closer. anyone done both? What's the better run event?

I've done both and thought Muncie was much better.  Also Steelhead you run the risk of a cancelled swim 2008 and 2011

Muncie also has a "prep for half ironman" intermediate distance race in early June.  It don't remember the exact distances, but it's somewhere between an olympic and a 70.3, so a 3/8ths Ironman?

Munice will be my first Half Ironman based on lots of positive feedback here, and I plan to do the prep race as well.

The intermediate distance is a 3k swim, 62k bike, 15k run.  It's on June 9th and you can register at muciemultisport.com.

For what it's worth, I was going through the same question, but ended up choosing Racine.  Reasons were - didn't want to get cancelled on the swim like Steelhead has been a couple of times recently; even though they can all be hot, Muncie seems to be notoriously hot; Muncie is never wet suit elligible but Racine always is.

It's true that Muncie can be hot, but it has also been wetsuit legal about half the time.

Or you might consider the Rev3 at Cedar Point.  I am giving very serious consideration to that one.  I have heard some pretty good things about that race and I am not concerned with the "branded" races at Muncie and Steelhead.  Obviously you may want to stay over night near Cedar Point but it may otherwise fit a better schedule (Sept. 9) for cooler temps and more possibly a wetsuit swim too.

Cancelled swim?!?! That sucks. I've been thinking about doing that event. Due to life events, I dont think I can be ready for Muncie. Anyone know anything about  the New Hampshire or Maryland races?
