WHEN CAN YOU START MENTORING CONSISTENTLY: Now
NAME: GaryRm - Gary
STORY: Short story was I had started the middle age bulge.  Both my father and brother died because of unhealthy lifestyles.  Started running and was injured in ditch fall.  Knee surgery and Dr said try swimming and biking as cross training.  Several online friends were starting Tri's and encouraged me to start.  Was hooked after the first race.
FAMILY STATUS: Married for 20+ years with two wonderful, healthy children.
CURRENT TRAINING: I am signed up for another HIM in April 2012 and will start getting competitive for some late season races.  I keep to a balanced training plan and attempted to avoid injury as much as possible.
THIS YEAR'S RACES: This year I completed several sprints, my third HIM, and an Oly.  Also did Girls on the Run 5k with my daughter.

2012 RACES:  NOLA 70.3, Big Cajun Oly, Sugarmill Sprint and some other races
WEIGHTLOSS: I have lost about 20 lbs and am working on keeping them off.
WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTOR: I have been part of Left.Right.Repeat's mentor group for three years now and have seen the power of a great mentor group.  While I will remain a member of that group I wanted to give back to this community from which I have received so much.  I have a great sense of humor and use that in a way to build fellowship.  I want to build a group that can rely on each of its members to help one another.

Special Note: My Mentor group has been in swing since January and is still going strong.  We are looking to add a few members.  Doesn't matter if you are going for your first Tri or have been doing it awhile.  Come join us!  You can post an intro here or at:

Greetings!
Are you still accepting spots in your mentor program? I haven't done the mentoring program before but have been doing tris for over 3 years now and would love a group to chat with. Cheers!

Hi!

Name: Dragos

Country: Romania (Europe)

I am a total newbie but I hope I can join.

I am reading a lot lately about triathlon racing and started preparing for my first triathlon.

I always loved all kinds of sports and after doing a half marathon last autumn (1h 58')I decided to get prepared for triathlon races. I started training almost two weeks ago. I am 24 years old, 5'10" and 152 lbs and I am highly competitive and plan to train as hard as I can.

I would like to do a half marathon at end of may, a sprint triathlon in mid july, and then move on up to an olympic in august and september. Meanwhile I plan to compete in some cycling events to get familiar to racing and all kinds of other events but I need coaching as I don't know for how much I should aim in my first year.

This is the starting point, I am confident I can improve fast!

Hi!!!!

My name is Stephanie (age 22) and I am soooooo new at this and kind of scared.
Just learning and researching more on triathelons as well.

My goal is to complete my first race by the end of the year or die trying (especially during the swim) lol.
But I have high ambitions and will commit to complete it.

I LOVE sports and running and biking. But as you may have noticed swimming is not my strongest suit.
So I plan on doing bike/run races within the year and by the end of the year go with the big boys and head for my first Triathelon.

I going to train long and hard this year and am ready to start!!!
I'm excited for this forum because I don't know how to start training, so I'll just start something for now.

If 2012 supposed to be the end of the world, I'm going to end it with a Bang and a Tri!!!

Hello Gary,

My name is Daniel and I just stumbled onto this site and am very interested and motivated to join if there is still space.  I am a 52 year old midlife career changer.  I now teach 7th grade lit/la.  I weigh 240, am 6'0" and consider myself active and healthy.  I would be thrilled to train for my tris and drop 45 pounds.

I will write more if I can get into the group.  Curious how this works.

Daniel

Any openings left for a 2nd Season Grandma??

Wendy, 45, from Manhattan, Kansas

Married, mother of two grown sons. My 1yr old GrandDaugher, Madilynn, was my inspiration to get back in shape. My journey: I found out in June 2010 that I was to become a Grandma. I was lazy and overweight. Not the kind of Grandma I wanted to be. That week I saw a news story on the Topeka Tinman Triathlon. Something clicked. When I was young I ran track, was on the swim team and rode my bike to get to practices. I secretly made the 2011 Tinman my goal. I started walking and at the end of a mile I was sweating out of breath and my legs were cramping. I kept walking and started to eat healthier and using myfitnesspal.com to log my meals, calories, exercise etc. When the walking got easier I started going to water aerobics, as I knew I wasn't ready to swim laps yet. In November 2010 I started Couch to 5K. In December 2010 I started swimming laps again. One lap at a time at first, it was pathetic! My Granddaughter was born in January 2011 by then I had dropped over 30lbs! In Febraury 2011 I started riding my bike and in March 2011 bought a road bike and was HOOKED on cycling. It is my favorite of the three! On June 18, 2011 I completed the sprint distance of the Topeka Tinman Triathlon in 1hr 35min, I felt like I had won! I loved it so much that I went on to do three more! I'm not fast but I don't give up!

Current Goals: Currently working on going from 5k to 10k. Doing Biking Across Kansas in June. Completing 4-5 Sprint Tri's this summer.

I train 6-7 days per week. I have not used my training log in FOREVER but will start it back up again this weekend!
