Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am went down to complimentary breakfast at hotel and ate a little oatmeal, banana, power bar and milk. Went back up to room and got ready for race and headed to start area about 6 blocks away from hotel.
Event warmup:

Took a little easy 10 minute jog around the streets of indy, then drank a prerace drink and headed for a porta-jon about 10 minutes till gun went off. Had to run back from jon to start line, took off sweats, gave them to the wife and meet brother-in-law in corral A at start of race. Yes beleive it or not we got seeded up front with all the Kenyans and about everyone else that is faster than us so we got a little to the back of corral A so there speed didn't lure us to a super fast pace. You'll see later this was a little bit of a mistake.

Comments:

The run started off perty slow or I should say slower than I expected being up front. I thought it would be a blistering pace for the first mile but instead everyone took off slow and it was so packed from side to side you had no where to go but sit back and let everyone settle in so when we came by the 1st mile in 6:50 it was nice in a way to know I wouldn't burn out but I was hoping for 6:30 to 6:45 pace so I knew i wanted to up the pace. The next 2 miles my bro-in-law and I picked it up and ran 6:00 min miles but I took the water at one station and gatorade at another and then started really feeling heavy in the stomach. Bad choice by me, I probably ate a little too much in morning and had plenty of fluids before the race so to take more on was not a ggood thing looking back. Even at that though I was still able to pull off 6:30 to 6:40 miles out through to the race track and started feeling a little better coming out of track at mile 9. Then when I figured at mile 10 to put forth a surge and finish the last 5k strong I got an extreme sharp pain in my right leg just below the knee cap. As I have never had a pain there ever before I wasn't sure what to think but every time I tried to pick up the pace the pain got worse so I settled back to a pace that was tollerable. This was frustrating as I ran a 6:55 mile and wanted to finish with 6:00 miles but I didn't want to kill over and not finish with bad knee pain. So at mile 11 to 12 I tried again and still had the pain but as we entered the last mile and all the people cheering and screaming I perty much forgot the pain on adrenelin and finished strong with a 6:20 mile. I finished well and a PR by a little under 3:00 minutes so I shouldn't complain but with how I felt cardio and such I Know I could've ran a couple minutes faster with better nutrition management and no knee pain.
What would you do differently?:

Not eat as much before race, not drink as much during 1st half of race. And trying to figure out what happened to knee
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to run a little but jog turned in to walk as knee was really hurting. Walked back to hotel iced knee then walked a little more then iced knee again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too full of liquid and knee pain at end

Event comments:

Great race class act and very well organized for 35,000 people. All kinds of goodies and post race activities and party
