Comments: This was the first race in a long time that I felt like I was racing. I felt strong the whole time, rather than the normal feeling of just trying to hang on. A lot of this is due to starting in the right pace group and sticking in the right RPE. Often for 5 or 10k's, I'll go out hard with the thought that I can suffer through the shortness of the distance. Today I tried to be smarter and it paid off with a nearly 2-minute improvement over last year's PR at this race. What would you do differently?: Get the long runs in. ![]() Post race
Warm down: A little stretching. They had chicken broth as one of the post-race offerings and it was AWESOMW!! Going to keep that in mind for post long, cold PNW workouts. Last updated: 2012-01-06 12:00 AM

Missed 4 of last 5 training runs due to travel, illness and funerals.
Normal pre-race breakfast of oatmeal and coffee about two hours before race time.
Drove to race site, checked in, returned to truck to stay warm and pin number on my shirt.
Downed a Gu 20 minutes before start time, hit the head, and jogged for 5-10 minutes.
5-10 minutes of jogging, lots of jumping up and down in the start area.
