Swim
Comments: Got in a good warmup prior to the start. I got in with 6 minutes until start to get comfortable. I decided that I needed to go under to get my face wet and used of the cold water so it didn't shock me like last year. The footing/bottom of the water was gross, made me not want to step on it and more anxious to start. Goggles fogged up initially but turned out okay. I found myself passing many others and felt strong the whole time although my left upper arm was sore by the end of the swim. I probably could have kept swimming if I needed to, I was really in a good rhythm. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: Didn't do well at all, I really need more practice. I seemed very unorganized although at the time it felt like I was doing good. What would you do differently?: More practice, disappointed it took me this long. Bike
Comments: Bike was decent except for the normal people who violate drafting rules. I know i'm not the strongest cyclist, but don't pass me on the right side! I'm not used of being in aero for quite so long though, so my shoulders were sore by mile 30. Usually the hills that I ride give me some relief. Almost wiped getting a water bottle at mile 12, but held on and chose to skip it the second time around. What would you do differently?: come out of aero a little more, skip the water bottle station since you haven't practiced it. Transition 2
Comments: Again, disappointed with my transition, I felt unorganized and had to double-check things constantly to make sure I was set to go. What would you do differently?: more practice to become more efficient in transition Run
Comments: I'm glad that i'm a runner because I felt strong throughout the run. Kept a decent pace and got myself hydrated early, which after coming off the bike, I realized I needed. Mixed the gatorade and water at each stop and then stopped drinking towards the end when i started to feel like I was going to cramp. Pushed it towards the end of the run where my pace actually picked up and I was passing a lot of people. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: none What limited your ability to perform faster: neck/shoulder pain on the bike from all the aero position riding. Event comments: packet pickup was slow, parking was challenging. I was happy the event started on time and with the organization of the event overall. The post-race was a little disappointing, the food was average at best (especially for a late finisher) as well as getting "water" at the end (I don't care for those sugary drinks). Event was good though, if these are the worst issues, they're not doing bad. Last updated: 2012-05-06 12:00 AM
