I saw Amanda Beard this weekend in Phoenix during the ASU invitional, she was very nice, gave props to my 12 year old daughter after her 200 fly and signed her cap. Is always nice when you meet somebody like her that remains approachable and is willing to spare some of her time to encourage the younger ones.

vonschnapps - 2012-05-30 4:44 PM What is it about Olympic swimmers? http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-400_162-57410465/olympic-swimmer-amanda...

I think it has more to do with being a professional athlete.  If you spend all of your childhood "developmental time" training, you miss out on the socialization part of growing up.  It's sad, but too often true.  Many athletes have to find another release for the adrenaline high of competition.  Others have to find relationships to fulfill the void of ones miss growing up, and too ofter these are "toxic".  The sad part is that many of these athletes aren't the ones choosing this for themselves, they being pushed into it by parents seeing nothing but dollar signs.
