Subject: Why I have to train 25 miles away (NM Fire)Southern New Mexico is currently experiencing it's largest forest fire in history. Today I got up and the smoke-haze from the Whitewater-Baldy Fire is so bad that I can't see the mountains that are 10 miles away. The fire itself is about 100 miles from where I live. With that view, I decided to drive another 25 miles west to get out of the smoke for my ride today. We're probably going to have this smoke for another month. The terrain is really rough and the wind isn't predictable other than it'll be from the west, so the firefighters are having a gawd-awful time fighting the fire. I spoke with a Forest Service Public Information Officer yesterday and he said they're just trying to save residences and keep the fire from growing completely out of control. Anything beyond that is a bonus. My girlfriend and I drove up to Glenwood and Mogollon, NM to get some pictures of the fire and the Forest Service crews. Edited by RBesecke 2012-05-31 3:09 PM
