Swim
Comments: A little off course early but then I thought my navigation was ok. During the swim I thought things were going well, post race I am disappointed I wasn't faster. What would you do differently?: I may need to look at Masters or private lessons with one of our better swimmers. The swim is definitely my limiting factor. I've got a lot of yards in the pool but not seeing better results. This is the my first race of the year so we'll have to see how things go the rest of the year. Transition 1
Comments: A little trouble with right heel when getting wet suit off, maybe added 15 sec. 4 in AG +35 from 1st. What would you do differently?: Not much Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike, hard but comfortable. Played cat & mouse with a few guys, one turned at sprint turn off, the other hung around for awhile. The beginning was crowded but I only had one really bad spot. I did go across the yellow 4-5 times to pass but no penalties were received. Some of the roads must have been re-surfaced or my memory is fault, the course seemed a little smoother than in the past. SOme of the hills seemed a little tougher than what I remember as well but nothing real difficult. What would you do differently?: As always go a little faster. I ended up with exact same time as in 2010 which is my bike pr at Buffalo. Transition 2
Comments: Good T2 with no issues. Did wear socks this race so added a couple of sec. 4th in AG +27. AG 1 - 3:06 AG 2 - 3:22 AG 3 - 4:05 Me - 3:55 I was 3rd in t times combined, this used be a strength, I slowed down last year with my knee. I need to get my T edge back. Run
Comments: Started out feeling good and going after that PR so was comfortable with fast beginning pace. Dropped to 7:30 going up hill which was OK. Just after turnaround felt a cramp starting in left hammie, eased up for just a bit then was stayed easy at start of downhill and the feeling went away. Pretty decent after 4 miles but just could not get back to close to 7:00 pace in miles 5 & 6. Working hard but just wasn't happening. Had a little left at very end so am wondering a little what the real issue was in miles 5 & 6. Still a good run. What would you do differently?: I was hoping to be able to run real close to a 7:00 pace so I was OK with my early pace, right on after 2 miles. Hammie issue did not significantly impact my time. Miles 5 & 6 were the issue. Had I known I was 32 sec from my next AG guy I think I could have gone faster but who knows? Be interesting to see what happens at RochesterFest. Post race
Warm down: Drink, drink, drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim needs to improve. I was really looking to PR here. Great weather conditions and fast course. I was 1:56 slower on swim, a combined 22 sec slower in T1/T2, exactly the on the bike and 20 sec slower on the run for 2:38 overall slower than my 2010 pr. Is it the 2 years older, the knee surgery? Does my increased training not quite make up for it? I'm not yet willing to believe I can't get faster yet, just look at my swim times. Maybe next year. With Greg Taylor racing, I knew the 1st AG spot was taken. Disappointed I was 32 secs off of 3rd. Overall a good effort and a good race. Event comments: Buffalo does a great job with most things, lot's of volunteers, orgnaized, on time, etc. The real issue is the size of the race and the congestion early & late on the bike. I knew what to expect so handled it well. Being last Oly wave off doesn't help. Last updated: 2012-06-11 12:00 AM
