Warm out with a swim to outer bouy. Rested the day prior and tapered the swims in the prior week.

Nice swim. Good swim time.

I always find the first few hundred meters seem hard on a long OW swim. So my strategy is to try to avoid the crowd, kicking, and hitting and start with a long stroke with a low stroke count. This keeps my HR from spiking and helps me settle into my stroke. Then as the race progresses I increase the turn-over rate and find that I often pass the people who sprinted the first 2-400 meters and are now spent, or struggling to keep pace. In any race over 500 meters this has worked well for me.

Any other interesting OW swims in the near future?
