Swim
Comments: I was determined to have a better swim then yesterday. Swam with the leaders until last buoy and got on the wrong side of it. Had to swim back around and ended up 20m behind the two guys out front. Tore off my lousy goggles and let them sink. Had to wade through 20m of mud to get to the shore. The other wave went off 3 minutes later, but the timing was set for 5 minutes. Otherwise I would have had the 3rd fastest swim. What would you do differently?: Get the last buoy right! Transition 1
Comments: Solid transition. Beat the number 2 swimmer out and So I was in second place Bike
Comments: Serious wind and rollers. 12mph with gusts to 20mph. Solid bike! I was leading within 1km and riding with the lead van in front. A couple times I almost touched the bumper. 2km in I went off the road due to wind and into the sand. Thought I was going to crash for sure, the lead van most have been laughing. I bunny hopped back on the road (thank to mtn biking skills). Kept the pace up with HR in the low 150s. Built my lead the whole way. Much faster than the race yesterday on a similar course, would have been 2nd best yesterday instead of 13th and saved over 2 minutes Transition 2
Comments: CHINSTRAP VIOLATION! Come on, I was first off the bike and undid my chinstrap running the the rack. Race officials descended on me and made by put it back on, re buckle and then proceed - cost me 30 sec. What would you do differently?: Follow the rules Run
Comments: No 2.5km more like 2.25km. Decent run. I seriously felt the race yesterday and the ride in my legs. After the turnaround I saw that on one was going to catch me so I eased up. HR in mid 150s. I felt great coming across the finish line in first place. The race announcer made a big deal about me doing the race, and doing "well" yesterday too. What would you do differently?: I could have run faster Post race
Event comments: I know this is a small field, short distance race that attracts a lot of few timers, but hey coming across the line first is something everyone should do, it felt great. If I had done the same paces in yesterday's race (which was not that much longer) I would have been in 5th place - not too bad. BTW, in the end someone from the next wave beat my time, hence 2nd place. Last updated: 2006-06-14 12:00 AM
