Subject: Life Milestone CelebrationsSo, as few of you know, I pass into the last year of my semi-centennial tomorrow (Wednesday). This means that in one year, I hit the Big-5-Oh. I'm not one for parties to celebrate the anniversaries of my birth (after all, my mom did all the work then), but I'd like to do something to celebrate the time spinning around on this ball of dirt. I remember Jack Lalaine doing all kinds of nutty things like swimming with his hands and feet tied while towing his wife in a rowboat. I remember on a team training ride once passing the dads of one of my hghschool classmates as he finished running 60 miles on his 60th birthday (and no, I'm NOT going to go run 50 miles). Here's kind of what I had in mind: 5x a sprint tri... approximately. Do a 2.4 mile swim, 81 mile bike, and 10 mile run... totaling 150km. On my own. In one day. No time limit. Not for speed. Just to do it, basically unsupported, and not "peaking" for an event. Five times a sprint would normally be 2.5m swim, 75m bike, 15.5m run, but I know even trying to work up to that kind of run distance would send onto the disabled list, so I'm moving the miles onto the bike. I know it's no IM (which I still have no desire to do), but it's plenty long for me. I know Lisa wants to do something "big" to celebrate... This is just my idea of celebrating life. And it'll happen one year from now (about). |
